Kerry Boss Ó Sé: GAA Must Respect All-Ireland Final Slot

Ó Sé's comments follow a semi-final clash that forced six Kerry players to miss crucial exams, highlighting a systemic scheduling failure. The GAA's 'well-being for players' rhetoric rings hollow when young athletes sacrifice academic milestones for championship commitments. This isn't an isolated incident—it's a pattern that erodes trust in the association's priorities.

The All-Ireland final weekend slot represents more than tradition; it's a signal of how the GAA values its emerging talent. By relegating the U20 decider to a secondary date, the association devalues the competition and the players' sacrifices. Ó Sé's stance resonates with a broader push for structural reform in Gaelic games.

Data shows that player burnout and academic conflicts are rising across all grades, yet the GAA's response remains reactive. A fixed, premier slot for the U20 final would align with best practices in other sports associations. The Kerry boss isn't just advocating for his team—he's challenging the GAA to walk its well-being talk.

Power Move: Ó Sé's intervention forces the GAA into a corner: either commit to player welfare with a prime final slot or face escalating criticism from county boards. Expect a formal proposal at Congress 2025—the optics of ignoring an All-Ireland winning manager are too damaging.
