Italy Names 24-Man Squad: Baldini's Bold Selection Strategy

The four omitted players training alongside the squad represent a strategic reserve—ready to step in if injuries strike or tactical adjustments demand fresh legs. This move maximizes preparation depth without bloating the official roster, giving Baldini flexibility to experiment in friendlies. Italy's coaching staff can evaluate more players in high-intensity training environments.

By publicly naming a core squad while keeping extras close, Baldini creates internal competition that drives performance. Players on the bubble know they're under continuous observation, not just during matches. This psychological edge could elevate training intensity and squad cohesion ahead of competitive fixtures.

Friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece offer low-risk opportunities to test formations and blood younger talent. Baldini's selection hints at a tactical shift toward pressing and quick transitions, demanding high fitness levels from all candidates. The extended training group ensures no drop-off in session quality.

Power Move: Baldini's dual-squad strategy isn't just about friendlies—it builds a deeper talent pool for future qualifiers. Expect at least two of the four extras to break into the main squad by autumn. Italy's bench strength just got a strategic upgrade.
