Liverpool Targets Serie A Defender Dumfries to Fix Right-Back Crisis

Dumfries offers a proven blend of Serie A grit and international experience, directly addressing Liverpool's vulnerability on the flank. His attacking output—averaging 0. 3 assists per 90 minutes—matches Klopp's system requirements while his defensive duels won rate of 65% provides immediate upgrade.

This pursuit signals Liverpool's recognition that right-back depth can't rely solely on Alexander-Arnold's inconsistent availability. With Conor Bradley still raw and Joe Gomez needed centrally, Dumfries provides immediate competition and tactical flexibility. The move mirrors the club's successful pattern of targeting Bundesliga/Serie A defenders like Konaté and Van Dijk.

Inter's financial pressures make them willing sellers, with a €30-35 million price tag likely acceptable. Liverpool's sporting director Hughes can structure payments to stay within FFP limits while addressing a critical squad hole. Securing Dumfries early would allow Klopp to integrate him during pre-season, maximizing tactical cohesion.

Power Move: Liverpool's move for Dumfries isn't just a transfer—it's a strategic recalibration. By prioritizing a proven defender over younger alternatives, the club signals intent to compete immediately rather than rebuild. Expect this deal to accelerate within two weeks, forcing competitors like Chelsea to pivot to secondary targets.
