Lando Norris, the McLaren driver who just clinched the 2025 Formula 1 world title, is expanding his business portfolio by taking a stake in Seat Unique, a UK-based provider of tickets and VIP experiences. The investment was made through a £20 million (around Rp400 billion) funding round completed this year, according to a Sky News report. The size of Norris's personal investment and the equity he acquired have not been disclosed publicly.
Seat Unique is no small player in the premium ticketing market. The company operates a marketplace for licensed seats at prestigious events, from football to boxing. It holds ticket distribution rights for UEFA Euro 2028 and the blockbuster Joshua vs Fury bout. For Norris, who works in an industry where race hospitality has become a business line of its own, the move is in line with his business instincts.
Norris's investment comes through The Players' Fund, a venture capital vehicle managed by professional athletes. The fund has previously brought in Harry Kane and Ben Stokes as shareholders. The funding round was led by Nickleby Capital, an existing shareholder of Seat Unique. Other names who also hold stakes in the company include Stuart Broad, Maya Jama, comedian Jack Whitehall, and actor Daniel Kaluuya.
Seat Unique CEO Robin Sherry sees Norris's presence as strong validation of the company's business direction. "The way fans enjoy live events has fundamentally changed. People want official access, unforgettable moments, and full certainty in their purchases—that is what we are building," he said. Sherry added that Norris understands that need better than anyone, making his investment a major endorsement of Seat Unique's future.
"Lando understands that better than anyone, which is why having him join us as an investor is such a powerful endorsement of where this business is heading." — Robin Sherry, CEO Seat Unique
The company is targeting a £500 million valuation (equivalent to Rp9.8 trillion) with annual revenue of £350 million by the end of the three-year cycle. Its main strategy is acquisitions and partnerships, including the recent purchases of P1 Travel and Circuit Hospitality. Seat Unique also holds ticket rights for Wembley Stadium, Co-op Live Manchester, and 16 racing facilities in the Arena Racing portfolio. In addition, it has formed a global partnership with Trip.com Group—its first significant expansion step into the Asia-Pacific region. Several other acquisitions and partnerships are said to be under exploration to accelerate growth.
For the Indonesian market, Seat Unique's expansion into Asia-Pacific through Trip.com Group opens the door for premium hospitality services to enter various international-scale events. Indonesia, with the Mandalika MotoGP and various global artist concerts, has strong potential as a VIP ticketing market. The presence of platforms like Seat Unique could raise the service standard for spectator experiences, while also signaling that the experience economy in the region is drawing more attention from global investors.
Looking ahead, the question is no longer whether top athletes will spread their wings into businesses beyond the field, but how quickly the supporting ecosystem—regulation, digital infrastructure, and local partnerships—is ready to accommodate this kind of investment wave. If Seat Unique does enter Indonesia, will it partner with local operators or compete directly with existing ticketing providers? Time will tell, but the wind is already blowing.
