The 2026 USA Boxing National Open officially got underway at the Cleveland Public Auditorium in Ohio, with 67 Olympic-style boxing matches completed on the opening session on Monday (9/28). A total of 134 boxers entered the ring, including 29 athletes from host state Ohio and six from the city of Cleveland, making the first day a showcase of amateur boxing strength from across the United States.
The tournament is USA Boxing's fourth national event of the year and the last before the 2026 National Championships in Lafayette, Louisiana. That position makes the National Open a crucial stepping stone for boxers chasing national ranking points as well as a ticket to a higher stage. For young athletes, results in Cleveland will determine their draw and status at the championships later.
The second day is scheduled to continue on Tuesday (9/29) with 66 additional matches in the Junior, Youth, and Elite men's divisions. The session starts at 12.00 local time. Boxing fans can follow the brackets, results sheets, and other tournament information through USA Boxing's official channels.
The full schedule places the women's competition as only beginning on Thursday, alongside the Youth and Junior men's finals. The Elite finals are scheduled for Friday, while the Intermediate, Bantam, and PeeWee finals are held on Saturday. This structure gives boxers from various age groups room to show their best in front of coaches and talent scouts.
"The National Open is a golden opportunity for young boxers to measure their ability against opponents from all over the country," said a coach who declined to be named, emphasizing the importance of competing at the national level.
For Indonesia, an event like the USA Boxing National Open offers valuable lessons. The country's boxing federation could emulate a tiered qualification system that integrates the Junior, Youth, and Elite age groups into a single series of events. Schedule consistency and result transparency are key to long-term athlete development, especially in the run-up to the 2028 Olympics. With a large population and talent spread across the archipelago, Indonesia has the potential to adopt a similar model to scout promising boxers from the regions.
Going forward, the 2026 USA Boxing National Open will serve as an early indicator of the strength of American amateur boxing ahead of the next Olympic cycle. The big question: can young boxers use this stage to break into the national team, or will surprises emerge from unseeded names? The answer will become clear by Saturday's finals.
