- Pemkab Majalengka menerima penghargaan Outstanding Community-centered Leadership and Participatory Governance pada CNN Indonesia Awards 2026.

The Majalengka Regency Government achieved national recognition by winning the CNN Indonesia Awards 2026 in the Outstanding Community-centered Leadership and Participatory Governance category. The award was presented directly by CNN Indonesia Director Desi Anwar to Majalengka Regent Eman Suherman at an event held at JW Marriott, South Jakarta, on Friday night (6/11).
The award was not without reason. The Majalengka Regency Government was judged to have successfully implemented participatory leadership through two main initiatives that directly involve the community, namely GEBER Jumat and Subuh Akbar. Both programs were considered capable of bridging government interests with residents' needs at the grassroots level.
GEBER Jumat, short for Gerakan Bersih-Bersih Jumat (Friday Clean-Up Movement), is a program that encourages residents' participation in maintaining environmental cleanliness, particularly in market areas. The program involves cross-sector collaboration to create a clean, healthy, and comfortable environment. Meanwhile, Subuh Akbar serves as a forum for open dialogue between the government and the community. The activity is regularly held as a religious movement initiated together with Forkopimcam, Kemenag, BAZNAS, and Polres Majalengka, with the aim of absorbing aspirations and identifying problems at the village level.
The leadership model promoted by the Majalengka Regency Government shows a shift from a conventional bureaucratic approach toward more inclusive governance. Increased citizen involvement is directly proportional to the local government's responsiveness to community needs. In the context of regional autonomy, this step is an example of how a regency government can build public trust through participatory programs with direct impact.
"This award is proof that leadership that involves the community can produce real change," said Desi Anwar when presenting the award.
The CNN Indonesia Awards itself is an annual appreciation event given to individuals, institutions, and leaders for their contributions and real impact in advancing Indonesia. This year marks the ninth edition after previously being held in various provinces such as South Sulawesi, North Sumatra, West Java, Bali, South Sumatra, East Java, Central Java, and Jakarta.
Going forward, the challenge for the Majalengka Regency Government is to maintain and expand the impact of these participatory programs. Can this kind of leadership model be replicated by other regions? Or will it become a new standard in more democratic and responsive governance? The public is certainly waiting for the continuation of initiatives that side with residents.
