Borneo FC will close out their away series in the Special Region of Yogyakarta by facing PSIM at Sultan Agung Stadium, Bantul, on Sunday (1/11/2026) afternoon WIB. Three more points are the main target for the Pesut Etam to improve their position in the provisional BRI Super League 2026/2027 standings.
Previously, Mauro Jeronimo's side beat PSS Sleman 2-1 at Maguwoharjo Stadium on Tuesday (27/10/2026). The win is valuable capital for Borneo FC, who now have nine points and sit in 12th place. Meanwhile, PSIM remain stuck in 17th with two points, making this match a golden opportunity for the visitors to get the maximum result.
Mauro Jeronimo is aware of the challenge his team faces, especially with a packed schedule of three matches in ten days. He has rotated to keep the players fit. "Winning is always motivation. We know we play three matches in 10 days, plus travel, so we tried to rotate some players so the team has fresher legs," he said, as quoted by Bola.com.
Nevertheless, the Portuguese coach stressed that his team have not reached peak performance. "We know we are not at our best level. There is still a lot to improve. We are still early in the season, so we have to keep working hard to get better," he added.
Borneo FC's young winger, Hugo Samir, also welcomed the win over PSS. According to him, every match matters for the team's journey. "Yesterday's win was important for us. Every match is important, and I am grateful to get three points," he said.
With PSIM at the bottom of the standings, Borneo FC are favored to win. However, the hosts will certainly try to spring a surprise in front of their own supporters. PSIM, who have collected just two points, are eager to climb out of the red zone, so this match is predicted to be fierce.
For Borneo FC, a win over PSIM would be valuable capital before returning to action in the AFC Challenge League. The Samarinda-based team have confirmed their place in the quarterfinals after beating Yangon United FC and Tainan City FC in the group stage. Balancing domestic and international competition is a challenge in itself for Mauro Jeronimo in managing the squad.
The big question is whether Borneo FC can maintain consistency and sweep both away matches in Yogyakarta. If they succeed, their position in the standings could rise significantly. Conversely, a defeat would be a heavy blow to the team's ambition to compete at the top. The people of Samarinda certainly hope the Pesut Etam can keep pushing and show their claws on the national and Asian stage.
