National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) is preparing to hold the handover ceremony (sertijab) for the Police Chief and Deputy Police Chief on Friday (2/10), a day after President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Comr. Gen. Suyudi Ario Seto and Comr. Gen. Wahyu Hadiningrat at the State Palace. Head of the National Police Public Relations Division Insp. Gen. Johnny Eddizon Isir confirmed the event will take place at headquarters, though technical details are still being finalized through an internal meeting on Thursday night.
Suyudi's inauguration marks the end of the era of Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who led the Bhayangkara Corps since 27 January 2021. The decision is set out in Presidential Decree Numbers 96 and 97/TK/2026 on the dismissal and appointment of senior National Police officials. Wahyu Hadiningrat, who previously served as Principal Assistant for General Planning and Budgeting (Astamarena), now fills the Deputy Police Chief seat left by Comr. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo.
Dedi himself has not left the circle of power. President Prabowo appointed him as Head of the National Agrarian Reform Agency, a strategic position amid the current government agenda. Meanwhile, Johnny said a technical meeting would be held tonight to finalize the program, including the handover of the ceremonial flag, the farewell and welcome, and the send-off. "Insyaallah, everything will be carried out tomorrow here, at Mabes Polri," Dedi said when met at Mabes Polri on Thursday (1/10).
The rotation within the National Police is not merely a change of seats. Several observers assess that Suyudi's leadership will be tested by public expectations for internal reform, especially regarding transparency in case handling and the professionalism of members. Suyudi's background as an officer long involved in operations and human resource development signals that President Prabowo wants accelerated consolidation at the lower levels.
On the other hand, Wahyu Hadiningrat's entry into the Deputy Police Chief position brings a new color to budget planning. As a former Astamarena, he is considered to understand the corps' financial needs well, so he is expected to drive efficiency and accountability in the use of funds. The Suyudi-Wahyu combination is predicted to focus on strengthening early detection of security disturbances and improving personnel welfare.
"Preparations have been made; there will be a flag handover, farewell and welcome, and send-off. Insyaallah, everything will be carried out tomorrow at Mabes Polri." โ Gen. Dedi Prasetyo
For the public, this handover is a moment to gauge the direction of National Police policy going forward. Will Suyudi continue his predecessor's priority programs, or will he bring significant change in the security approach? What is clear is that leadership transitions at Mabes Polri always draw attention because of their implications for national stability and law enforcement.
With the inauguration completed, the focus now shifts to Friday's handover ceremony. The public awaits whether this leadership relay will be accompanied by a strong commitment to cleanse the institution of practices that tarnish the National Police's name, or whether it will merely be an annual bureaucratic routine.
