Luke Vickery Ready for Debut, Indonesia Has a New Option on the Right Wing

Luke Vickery has finally met the requirements to strengthen the Indonesia national team and is included in the list of 23 players taken by coach John Herdman to the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup. The 20-year-old winger has officially held Indonesian citizen (WNI) status after taking his oath at the Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney, Australia, on 16 July 2026. Now, he is preparing to make his debut with the Garuda squad in the Group A opener against Singapore at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Friday (25/9/2026) evening WIB.

Vickery's presence adds an option on the wing, a sector that has long been one of the Indonesia national team's strengths. However, the competition will not be easy. Now, after all documents are finalized, he becomes the second player naturalized by PSSI in the John Herdman coaching era, after another name was processed earlier.

On one hand, Vickery's presence provides a new dimension in the attacking scheme, especially his ability to operate on both wings.
