TV host of The Masked Singer, Nick Cannon, revealed that he is still open to rekindling a romance with his ex-wife, singer Mariah Carey. The couple, who married in 2008 and divorced eight years later, still communicate almost daily, mainly to discuss their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, who are now 15 years old.
In an interview with Us Weekly, Cannon dismissed reports that his relationship with Carey was strained. He laughed off the rumor and said he and Carey had discussed it. "We talk almost every day or every other day, especially about the kids. We laughed about [the report that we're not close]. I asked, 'Who said that?'" he said.
Even so, Cannon stressed that he has no plans to marry again. For him, the institution of marriage still deserves respect, but he is unwilling to go through a complicated legal process. "I don't like the government being involved in my love life. I think marriage should be respected, but I can't imagine having to deal with legal documents again," said the 45-year-old man.
Cannon is also known for his complex personal life. Besides Moroccan and Monroe, he has other children from several women: Golden (9), Powerful (5), and Rise (4) with Brittany Bell; twins Zion and Zillion (5) and Beautiful (3) with Abby De La Rosa; Legendary (4) with Bre Tiesi; Onyx (4) with LaNisha Cole; and Halo (3) with Alyssa Scott, the mother of his son who died, Zen, in 2021 from cancer at five months old.
Although he has no "favorite" among the mothers of his children, Cannon admitted to having a special bond with Bre Tiesi. He called Bre the person who understands him best. "We call each other twin flames because she accepts all my flaws, and I accept her. There's an understanding I don't have with anyone else. She's very protective of me. Loyalty like that can't be bought," he said.
Cannon's statement comes amid growing public attention to celebrity lives, especially those related to post-divorce relationships and co-parenting. In Indonesia, the issue of co-parenting is also increasingly relevant as divorce rates rise and awareness grows of the importance of parental collaboration for children's well-being. Although culture and law in Indonesia differ, the principle of prioritizing children's interests remains a universal value.
Going forward, the public will still be waiting to see whether Cannon and Carey will actually reconcile or remain close friends. What is clear is that for Cannon, his main priority is being a good father to his children, without having to be tied down in marriage again.
