JAKARTA โ Soraya Intercine Films has confirmed that the film 5cm: Revolusi Hati will not rely on nostalgia alone. Producer Sunil Soraya revealed that the team is preparing an original theme song written specifically for the prequel. However, he was not yet willing to disclose details of the song or the name of its singer.
โThis song was made specifically, with a new style. Everything is indeed prepared for this film,โ Sunil said at a cast announcement press conference in the Kebon Sirih area, Central Jakarta, some time ago. He added that production is still ongoing and an official announcement will most likely be made next month.
The decision to present a new soundtrack has drawn attention because the 5cm film released in 2012 is closely tied to Nidji songs such as โDi Atas Awanโ and โRahasia Hatiโ. Those songs did not merely accompany scenes; they also helped build an emotional bond between the audience and the characters and story. Now the production team is expected to create a work that can repeat, or even surpass, that lasting impression.
In the Indonesian film industry, a soundtrack is no longer a supplementary element. A number of successful titles have proven able to extend their run in cinemas and on streaming platforms thanks to memorable theme songs. This phenomenon also opens up additional revenue opportunities from digital sales, concerts, and music licensing. For Soraya Intercine Films, investing in a new song is a strategy to strengthen the appeal of 5cm: Revolusi Hati in an increasingly competitive market.
โWe are still in the middle of the process. We cannot reveal it now. Perhaps next month we can reveal it,โ said Sunil Soraya.
Beyond the musical aspect, the film also introduces a lineup of young actors. Roman King has been cast as the teenage Zafran, joined by Ali Fikry, Bima Sena, Olivia Morisson, Rachel Aseelah, and Ronggo Vercaemer. The story will highlight Zafran's final years of junior high school, including the dynamics of friendship and the events that shaped his character before the Mahameru climb in the first film.
For readers in Indonesia, especially creative industry players and investors, this move reflects a shift in the landscape of national film production. Music is no longer seen as an additional cost, but as a strategic asset that can increase the selling value of a franchise. The success of the soundtrack will be an indicator of whether Indonesian audiences remain tied to nostalgia, or are instead seeking a new identity in a story they already know.
With the release date only months away, attention is now focused on who will lend their voice to the theme song. Will Soraya Intercine Films choose a newcomer to reflect youthful spirit, or bring in an established name to guarantee market appeal? The answer will soon be revealed, and the public is waiting to see whether this new song can become an earworm accompanying Zafran's journey on the big screen.
