Ipda Yayat Resigns from the Police: Health Reason or the Fog of the Bekasi Regent Bribery Case?

- Ipda Yayat Sudrajat mengajukan pengunduran diri dari Polri enam bulan lalu, dengan alasan gangguan kesehatan akibat berat badan berlebih.
- KPK tengah menyelidiki dugaan suap Bupati Bekasi dan menduga Yayat memiliki belasan aset properti mewah di berbagai wilayah.
- Pengunduran diri Yayat menimbulkan pertanyaan tentang transparansi penanganan kasus dan potensi hambatan penyidikan.

A member of the Intelligence and Security Unit (Intelkam) of the Cimanggis Police Sector, Ipda Yayat Sudrajat, submitted a request to resign from the police six months ago. The reason he gave his superiors was a health condition disrupted by excess weight. However, the resignation came to public attention precisely because his name was dragged into the alleged bribery case involving the Bekasi Regent for the 2025-2030 period, Ade Kuswara Kunang, which is being investigated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
The Cimanggis Police Chief, Kompol Jupriono, confirmed that Yayat had been examined by the Propam Division of the Metro Jaya Regional Police about one to two months before the KPK searched his residence. According to Jupriono, after that internal examination, Yayat was declared unable to carry out his duties and underwent outpatient treatment. "He could not carry out his duties and had submitted his resignation six months ago," Jupriono said on Wednesday (23/9).
The KPK itself has searched two luxury houses belonging to Yayat in Depok, West Java, and Cibubur, East Jakarta. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo revealed that investigators suspect Yayat owns more than a dozen luxury land and building assets spread across Jakarta, Bekasi, Cibubur, Depok, Bogor, Sukabumi, and Karawang. Investigators are still tracing other assets allegedly connected.
In handling this case, the KPK is using a general Investigation Order (Sprindik), which means a suspect will be named in the middle of the investigation process. Yayat has been questioned by investigators after the searches. To date, there has been no official statement from the KPK regarding Yayat's legal status, whether as a witness or a potential suspect.
"Correct (he was examined by Propam before the KPK searches). It was 1-2 months ago," Jupriono said when confirmed.
The public is also questioning why Yayat's resignation only surfaced after the bribery case emerged. Is the health reason a shield to avoid further examination? After all, in corruption cases, a person's membership status does not hinder an investigation. The KPK can examine anyone, including those who have resigned from the institution.
If Yayat indeed owns more than a dozen luxury property assets, the source of his wealth needs to be thoroughly investigated. Moreover, as a police officer with the rank of Ipda, his official income is not commensurate with the ownership of those assets. The KPK needs to dig deeper into whether there was a flow of funds from certain parties, including from the Bekasi Regent currently under examination.
This case also highlights the importance of internal oversight within the National Police. Propam has examined Yayat, but the results were not disclosed to the public. Was there an ethical sanction? Or was the resignation process instead the way out? Transparency is key so that the public does not suspect an effort to protect its members.
Going forward, the KPK is demanded to work quickly and independently. Naming a suspect under a general Sprindik can take time, but the public awaits clarity. If Yayat is proven involved, his resignation will not erase legal responsibility. Conversely, if not proven, his reputation has already been tarnished. What is clear is that this case is a test for law enforcement in Indonesia, especially when it involves members of the apparatus.
