Pinterest has officially launched a new feature called campaign optimization score, a metric that provides an instant assessment of the potential performance of ad campaigns on its platform. This score is calculated based on several ad setting elements and indicates how ready a campaign is to run optimally.
Although positioned as a universal measurement tool, in practice, this score primarily drives the adoption of Pinterest+ and Performance+, two AI-based products that form the backbone of Pinterest's monetization strategy. The company states that higher scores correlate with better campaign results, but the greatest benefits are realized when advertisers fully follow the system's recommendations.
There are four main pillars assessed in this score: the adoption rate of Pinterest+, the availability of creative variations, the use of broad targeting, and the consistency of budget allocation. The more complete these elements are, the higher the score obtained, which ultimately provides a positive signal for Pinterest's AI system to optimize ad delivery.
Pinterest also emphasizes the importance of creative variations. The company recommends that each ad group display at least three different formats, and ideally five or more creatives. According to Pinterest, the more variations provided, the richer the signals received by the system to understand audience preferences in various contexts. The Performance+ creative feature even allows the system to automatically reformat existing ad assets into new formats, making it easier for advertisers to meet this requirement.
Furthermore, Pinterest reminds advertisers to keep conversion data and product catalogs up-to-date. Outdated data risks making campaigns misaligned with current shopping trends, ultimately reducing ad relevance. This step aligns with Pinterest's efforts to strengthen its position as a discovery platform that prioritizes shopping intent, rather than just social interaction.
"The campaign optimization score in Ads Manager gives you an instant read on how closely your campaign settings align with best practices proven to improve performance. Across all objectives, we see higher scores correlating with better campaign performance," explained Pinterest in its official announcement.
For the Indonesian market, this move by Pinterest marks a new chapter in digital advertising automation. Global platforms are increasingly demanding advertisers to be not only creative but also disciplined in data structure and budgeting. SMEs and local agencies accustomed to manual settings will need to adapt to systems that rely on AI signals. The reliance on content variation and catalog updates poses a particular challenge, especially for businesses that do not yet have robust data infrastructure.
On the other hand, the presence of this score could be an opportunity to increase ad spend efficiency. With clear guidance, advertisers can measure campaign readiness before launch, reduce budget waste, and maximize reach. However, there is a risk of over-reliance on platform recommendations, which could lead to strategy homogenization and a lack of brand differentiation.
Looking ahead, the question is how quickly Indonesia's advertising ecosystem can adopt these new standards. If Pinterest continues to expand AI integration and partners with technology players like Nvidia, it's not impossible that similar features will become the norm across all platforms. Advertisers who are slow to adapt risk losing competitiveness, while those who are agile can reap the benefits of the efficiencies offered.
