An 18-year-old girl, known by the initial K, was found dead at a chicken noodle stall in Kedung Pengawas Village, Babelan, Bekasi Regency, on Saturday night (12/9). A shocking fact emerged after the autopsy: the victim was carrying a seven-month-old fetus. The baby in her womb could not be saved.
The Babelan Police Sector stated that K's death was caused by strangulation to the neck. The female fetus died together with its mother. "Based on the autopsy results at Kramat Jati Police Hospital, a seven-month-old child was found in the victim's womb," said the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Babelan Police, AKP Syafwardi, on Tuesday (15/9).
The incident began with a meeting between the victim and the suspect, AK (23), who works as a chicken noodle seller. The two met through the MiChat messaging app and agreed to meet for a date. However, the agreed rate for the date service of Rp250,000 was not fulfilled by the suspect. AK only paid Rp50,000, triggering a dispute.
According to the Head of Public Relations of Bekasi Metro Police, AKP Aliyani, the victim initially refused to have sex because the payment was not as agreed. The suspect then lost control, strangled the victim, and dragged her until she bled from the nose. The victim's screams were heard by residents, who immediately broke down the back door of the stall and secured the suspect.
"The victim asked for the service fee that had been agreed upon previously. However, the suspect could not fulfill the payment according to the agreement, namely Rp250,000. The suspect only paid Rp50,000," said Syafwardi.
AK is now detained at Babelan Police Station and is charged with Article 458 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code on assault causing death, as well as Article 466 paragraph (3) of the Criminal Code on violence within sexual relations. The maximum penalty is 15 years in prison.
This case highlights the dark side of online sex transactions that are increasingly prevalent in Indonesia. Apps like MiChat often become negotiation spaces vulnerable to violence, especially for young women. Data from the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) shows an increase in cases of online gender-based violence, including sexual exploitation, in recent years. However, law enforcement still faces obstacles in proof and stigma against victims.
For readers in Indonesia, this incident serves as a reminder that protection for women and children is not yet fully optimal. Regulations such as the TPKS Law have been passed, but their implementation on the ground is still far from expectations. The public, especially messaging app users, need to increase vigilance against the risk of crime lurking behind online interactions.
Going forward, law enforcement officials are demanded not only to punish perpetrators but also to strengthen prevention systems. Will digital platforms be more proactive in filtering risky content, or will similar cases continue to recur without structural solutions?
