Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of Truth Social, has once again surprised the crypto market. On Thursday (5/11/2026) at 02.17 UTC, a wallet believed to be affiliated with the company moved 4,259 bitcoin (BTC) worth about USD434 million to the Crypto.com platform. The transaction was carried out in two nearly equal batches: 2,140.03 BTC and 2,119.31 BTC, according to on-chain data from Arkham Intelligence.
This transfer is not the first. Since May 2026, TMTG has sent bitcoin to Crypto.com several times under the rationale of custody and trading strategy. However, the scale of this shipment—equivalent to 30% of the company's total bitcoin holdings as of 31 July 2026—has sparked speculation that the company is beginning to prepare for financial pressure. Moreover, TMTG is scheduled to face convertible bond repurchase rights on 30 November 2026, which could drain up to USD1 billion in cash if all bondholders exercise their rights.
In a securities filing dated 2 November 2026, TMTG management explicitly warned that if refinancing or other measures prove insufficient, the company may have to sell bitcoin or other digital assets to fund the buyback. This warning reinforces the suspicion that the move of 4,259 BTC to Crypto.com is not merely a custody rotation, but part of liquidity preparation.
Arkham tagged the sending address as "2028 Convertible Notes Collateral"—consistent with TMTG's second-quarter report, which stated that 4,260.73 BTC were pledged for convertible bonds as of 30 June 2026. However, the label does not explain the reason behind the transfer. CoinDesk has contacted TMTG for confirmation but had not received a response as of this news being published.
"Is this the start of a BTC sell-off? For now, a transfer to an exchange or custodian does not automatically mean bitcoin is being sold. It could be a custody move or something else. But a transfer worth USD343 million is not something the market will ignore," said EyeOnChain, one of the blockchain data monitors, via its X account.
The crypto market often reads large transfers to exchanges as a sell signal. However, TMTG's history shows a similar pattern: in May 2026, the company sent 2,650 BTC (about USD205 million) to Crypto.com and stated it was part of a trading strategy, not a sale. In early August 2026, 2,628 BTC (about USD165 million) was also moved under the rationale of custody management. Crypto.com itself has been one of TMTG's custody partners since the company began its bitcoin treasury strategy.
Nevertheless, the macro and corporate context this time is different. Pressure from the convertible bond repurchase obligation puts TMTG at a crossroads: keep its bitcoin reserves as a strategic asset, or sacrifice them to meet debt obligations. If the company chooses to sell most of its holdings, the global bitcoin market could experience a supply shock. Conversely, if this transfer is purely custody, the signal is more neutral.
For Indonesia, TMTG's bitcoin treasury movements are worth watching even though the direct effect is limited. Several local exchanges such as Indodax and Pintu record fairly liquid bitcoin trading volumes, and global sentiment often spills over into the domestic market. Domestic retail investors need to be wary of potential volatility increases toward the end of November, especially if TMTG actually releases its reserves. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) itself has not given a specific comment on this dynamic, but crypto asset supervision in Indonesia has been under OJK since early 2025.
Going forward, two things need to be watched: first, whether TMTG will release an official statement in the coming days to clarify the purpose of the transfer; second, how the bitcoin price responds if there is indeed a large-scale sale. With the 30 November deadline approaching, the market does not have much time to guess. Is this a smart anticipatory move, or a signal of deeper financial difficulties? The answer will soon be revealed.
