Barcelona Eye Pedro Porro, Tottenham Wary of Losing De Zerbi's Key Man

Barcelona are reported to have opened communication with the representatives of Pedro Porro, Tottenham Hotspur's right-back, to explore a possible transfer in an upcoming window. The move is a warning sign for Spurs, who are trying to revive their form under Roberto De Zerbi.
According to reports cited by Sport Witness, an approach has been made to Porro's agent. The 27-year-old has previously expressed a desire to return to Spain, his homeland, even though he remains under contract in north London.
Porro stressed that playing in La Liga is a personal dream. However, he also reaffirmed his commitment to Tottenham at present. “It's clear that I want to return to Spain one day. It's my country, and I love the league,” he said this week. “Right now, it's not fair to talk about anything other than my club because I'm still under contract, but of course, returning to Spain is a big dream.”
De Zerbi, appointed coach in the summer, regards Porro as one of his most influential players. Ahead of the match against Crystal Palace, he praised the quality of the Spanish defender. “Pedro is one of the biggest players. He is a great guy, sensitive, and passionate. We are very lucky to have Pedro,” De Zerbi said.
The praise is not without reason. Porro has become a key figure in De Zerbi's setup, which is trying to reshape Tottenham after a run of poor results. In their last three Premier League matches, Spurs have recorded two wins and one draw, offering hope of a revival.
However, Barcelona's ambition to sign Porro will not be easy to realize. The long contract signed last June means Tottenham are under no pressure to let go of their star player. Spurs are even in a strong position to set a high price if a serious offer arrives.
Journalist Santi Ovalle revealed that Barcelona like Porro, but the player's price was considered too high in last summer's transfer window. “Laporta and Deco like him, but the price was too high in the summer. Barca will again have problems with Financial Fair Play rules because they will face many obstacles in returning to Montjuïc. I don't think Barca are in a position to spend a lot of money on a full-back next summer. But they do like him,” Ovalle explained.
For Tottenham, keeping Porro is crucial amid the team's rebuilding process. The management has spent heavily to bring in players with Premier League experience, and Porro is one of the few players who truly fit De Zerbi's vision.
If Barcelona fail to complete the transfer due to financial constraints, Spurs can breathe a sigh of relief. However, the interest from the Spanish giants remains a long-term threat, especially if Porro continues to impress and his desire to return home grows stronger.
The question now is: will Tottenham be able to resist Barcelona's lure, or will they lose one of their key pillars while they are in the middle of rebuilding? The answer will depend on the dynamics of the transfer market and Barcelona's financial situation in the coming months.
