Mercedes on the Brink of a 2026 F1 Double: When Does the Party Start?

Mercedes has restored its aura of dominance in Formula 1. With six rounds remaining in the 2026 season, the Brackley-based team leads the constructors' standings by 134 points over Ferrari, 239 points over McLaren, and 246 points over Red Bull. Victories in 11 of 17 grand prix have laid the foundation for a resurgence after several years dominated by Red Bull and McLaren.
Kimi Antonelli, the young driver promoted to the main seat this season, tops the drivers' standings with a 102-point lead. His teammate, George Russell, completes a one-two. This performance recalls the 2014-2020 period when Mercedes dominated the turbo hybrid engine era. Now, under the new 2026 regulations, the Silver Arrows have again found the right formula.
Even so, it does not mean the titles are already in hand. Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull still have mathematical chances, though the chances of the last two teams are very slim. With 258 points remaining in the constructors' standings—assuming the Qatar and Abu Dhabi rounds still take place—the contest is not entirely over. However, Mercedes' significant advantage makes the constructors' title almost certain to return to Germany.
The question that arises: when exactly can Mercedes celebrate the title? For the drivers' title, Antonelli has a strong chance of clinching it at the United States Grand Prix in Austin this weekend, or at the latest in Mexico a week later. As for the constructors' title, it will likely only be confirmed in Brazil, the round after Mexico, because Ferrari will still be within mathematical range after Austin.
Why can't Austin yet confirm the constructors' title? McLaren and Red Bull are expected to be eliminated from contention after Austin because they must be within 214 points of Mercedes. With a nine-win advantage over both teams, Mercedes remains ahead if points are equal. Ferrari is the only team that can still chase, and they will remain within 214 points of Mercedes whatever the result in Austin. So, the constructors' title will not be decided this weekend.
The worst-case scenario for Ferrari in Austin is failing to score any points at all while Mercedes finishes 1-2. That would widen the gap to 177 points. If that happens, Mercedes could clinch the constructors' title in Mexico, which would be their ninth title and match Williams in third place on the all-time list behind Ferrari (16) and McLaren (10). However, this scenario is highly unlikely given Ferrari's consistency this season.
Realistically, Mercedes has never scored full points while Ferrari scored none in a single race this season. On average, Mercedes leads Ferrari by only 7.6 points per race. If that trend continues in Austin and Mexico, their gap will be around 149 points, meaning the title cannot yet be clinched in Mexico. Therefore, the constructors' title will most likely only be confirmed at the Brazilian Grand Prix, which will be held after Mexico.
For Mercedes, the 2026 season is revenge after a constructors' title drought since 2021. Early-season dominance followed by a dip in rivals' performance shows that this team is not only fast but also consistent. Ferrari, despite trailing, remains the main threat, while McLaren and Red Bull must acknowledge Mercedes' superiority.
The question now: will Mercedes sweep both the drivers' and constructors' titles, or will Ferrari spring a surprise in the remaining season? What is clear is that Mercedes' championship party is only a matter of time—and it may well happen in Brazil, not in Austin or Mexico.
