Pertamina Involves 30 MSMEs at MotoGP Mandalika 2026, Pushes for Sustainable Local Economy

PT Pertamina (Persero) deployed 30 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) under its guidance to run a bazaar at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2026, held 9โ11 October at Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The move places local businesses as part of the value chain of an international racing event, not merely spectators.
Over three days, the MSMEs occupied the Festival Energizing Indonesia area. Products on offer ranged from food and beverages to handicrafts and body care. Of the total participants, 26 operate in the food and beverage sector, according to Fety, Manager of SMEPP at Pertamina. The rest fill the niche of crafts and supporting services.
The presence of MSMEs at the circuit is nothing new, but the scale and composition this year signal a shift. Pertamina does not merely provide booths; it encourages collaboration among MSMEs. One example is Loyok Kreatif, a bamboo weaving producer from Loyok Village, which involves women and people with disabilities in its production process. Its owner, Agus Hartadi, expressed pride that his village's craft is also part of the event's official merchandise.
"These MSMEs are not only fighting for themselves, but also empowering those around them and collaborating with one another," Fety said.
Similar collaboration is seen in the reflexology massage service for visitors. Local therapists work with MSME Bali Ayu Nature, which supplies massage oil and body care products. This model shows how a global-scale event can act as a catalyst for a mutually supporting small-business ecosystem.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Muhammad Baron, stressed that the MotoGP event is not merely a corporate branding tool. Three aspects are promoted: performance, innovation, and sustainability. According to him, the sustainability aspect is crucial because the event's momentum must strengthen Mandalika's appeal as a sustainable tourism destination, even after the race ends.
"We carry this sustainability aspect because the momentum of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia serves as a means to strengthen Mandalika's appeal as a tourism destination, which does not happen only during the event but will continue. Because Mandalika is one of the leading tourism destinations, so through the showcase of superior products we build, it can help drive the local economy," Baron concluded.
For MSME players, this event opens market access that is usually hard to reach. Foreign and domestic tourists at the circuit become potential buyers, while also introducing local products to a wider network. However, the main challenge is ensuring that the impact does not stop when the checkered flag is waved.
Local governments and area managers are expected to prepare follow-up strategies so that the MSMEs involved can continue to access the market after the event. Without sustained mentoring and promotion, the event risks being merely ceremonial. Pertamina itself has signaled a commitment to making Mandalika a sustainable showcase of superior products.
Going forward, the question is whether this model can be replicated at other events, or even become a new standard in hosting international events in Indonesia. If successful, MotoGP Mandalika 2026 could set a precedent that a sporting event is not only about achievement, but also an inclusive driver of the people's economy.
