A large fire swept through a dense neighborhood in Petamburan 2, Petamburan Village, Tanah Abang District, Central Jakarta, in the early hours of Wednesday (30/9). The towering flames were visible from afar, lighting up the dark sky over an area known for its very tightly packed buildings.
Fire department emergency call center officer Surya said the first report came in to the 112 number at 01.45 WIB. "The call came in to us at 01.45 WIB," he said when contacted at around 02.55 WIB. He confirmed that firefighting teams had been deployed and that the extinguishing process was under way.
As of this report, there was no official information on the cause of the fire or the number of buildings affected. However, the location in a densely populated area with narrow road access often poses a particular challenge for officers carrying out evacuation and firefighting.
Fires in dense neighborhoods such as Petamburan are not a first. Areas with closely packed buildings and often aging electrical installations increase the risk of short circuits and rapid fire spread. In addition, the lack of evacuation routes and adequate water sources is a classic obstacle for the DKI Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat).
"It's already, already in the extinguishing process," Surya said briefly, confirming that a rapid response had been carried out.
Nevertheless, the incident is another reminder of the importance of residents' preparedness in vulnerable areas. Early detection through simple fire alarms, routine checks of electrical installations, and knowledge of evacuation routes can minimize casualties and material losses.
Local governments and area managers are expected to keep improving outreach and supervision, especially in dense neighborhoods that often escape attention. Without sustained preventive measures, the potential for similar fires will continue to loom.
As of this report, there was no information on casualties or the value of losses. Residents are urged to stay away from the location and follow officers' instructions. The LyndHub editorial team will update developments as soon as official data is available.
