Xbox has officially announced the arrival of Mythic Achievements, a prestigious achievement feature that players have long awaited. The news comes after it leaked last week, and starting today the feature is accessible to participants in the Xbox Insider program. The move answers a long-standing community request for an equivalent to PlayStation's Platinum Trophy.
In a post on Xbox Wire, the company explained that Mythic Achievements are designed to "recognize some of the biggest achievements in your Xbox history." The mechanism is similar to the Platinum Trophy: players must complete all original achievements in a single game. Additional content from DLC or updates will not count, and will not revoke a Mythic status already earned. This approach gives players certainty that their achievements will not disappear over time.
To support this feature, Xbox has added a new Gaming tab to player profiles. The tab serves as a hub for tracking Gamerscore and viewing all achievements. Mythic will be marked with a heroic frame that distinguishes it from regular achievements. In addition, each game's achievement list will include a progress bar showing how close a player is to Mythic status. This detail is expected to make it easier for players to plan their journey toward the highest achievement.
Nevertheless, Xbox has not released the list of games that will receive Mythic Achievements at the initial launch. In the Xbox Wire post, it was stated that players will automatically see Mythic appear on qualifying titles, including Xbox 360 games. Without knowing the system used, the community can only speculate. Speculation points to the possibility that Xbox is using Platinum Trophy data from PlayStation for multiplatform games, while for Xbox exclusives, Mythic must be built from scratch.
"We want to celebrate players' biggest achievements in a way they deserve," Xbox wrote in its official announcement, without mentioning a specific list of games.
The launch of this feature cannot be separated from the broader industry context. A week earlier, Xbox announced a wave of layoffs and the closure of several studios, including Ninja Theory. The company also remains a primary target of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. The move to introduce Mythic Achievements is seen by some observers as an effort to divert attention from internal problems and maintain the loyalty of its hardcore fan base.
For the Indonesian market, the arrival of Mythic Achievements could influence the behavior of gamers in the country. The Xbox community in Indonesia is indeed smaller than PlayStation's, but this feature could be an additional draw for Xbox console owners. Moreover, the culture of achievement hunting is already ingrained among hardcore players. With a progress bar and exclusive frame, competition to complete games 100% is predicted to increase, which in turn could drive game sales and extend the life cycle of older titles.
Going forward, the big question is how inclusive this feature will be. If Xbox only grants Mythic for certain games, some players may feel shortchanged. Conversely, if too many titles receive it, the prestige value could decline. Xbox needs to quickly release a transparent list of games and scoring system so that enthusiasm does not turn into disappointment. What do you think, will Mythic Achievements be able to rival the prestige of the Platinum Trophy that has endured for more than a decade?
