The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) has disbursed logistics aid worth a total of Rp253,862,860 to ease the burden on victims of the flash flood that struck the Arosuka area, Gunung Talang District, Solok Regency, West Sumatra, on Monday night (21/9/2026). The aid was distributed to meet residents' basic needs during the emergency response period, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf said in an official statement on Friday (25/9/2026).
The disaster, triggered by high-intensity rain, occurred at around 19.45 WIB. A landslide in the hills around the Batang Laso River carried sand, rocks, and mud that hit the Solok Regency Government Office Complex and surrounding settlements. According to Saifullah, the emergency response was carried out in an integrated manner with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and other agencies. "We are behind or makmum with BNPB. After the emergency is over, we will help with the socio-economic recovery," said the man familiarly known as Gus Ipul.
Logistics distribution was carried out through two main points: the Kemensos Warehouse at the West Sumatra Provincial Social Affairs Office and the Padang Center for Social Welfare Education and Training (BBPPKS). From the Social Affairs Office Warehouse, the aid sent included 70 blankets, 180 ready-to-eat meal packages, 30 roll-up tent packages, 80 children's food packages, and 50 mattress packages, with a value reaching Rp75,509,310. Meanwhile, BBPPKS Padang distributed 900 ready-to-eat side dish packages, 100 mattresses, 100 blankets, 50 family kit packages, 50 kidsware packages, 100 children's clothing packages, and one multipurpose tent unit, worth a total of Rp178,353,550.
Beyond logistics aid, Kemensos emphasized its commitment to accompanying the post-disaster recovery process. Gus Ipul stated that after the emergency period ends, his office will provide support based on the results of an assessment of victims' needs. "If, for example, someone's house is damaged, we will help buy the contents of the home," he added. He also stressed that aid distribution follows the same standards in various affected areas, including in Sumatra, NTT, and other regions.
"The Ministry of Social Affairs continues to distribute based on existing data, in Sumatra, in NTT, and also in various other regions, the standards are all the same." โ Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf
For readers in Indonesia, especially professionals and investors, this rapid government response demonstrates coordinated disaster mitigation readiness. However, the speed of logistics aid also highlights the importance of accurate data and budget transparency, especially since the value of the aid is not small. On the other hand, this event reminds us that hydrometeorological disaster risk remains high in various regions, making investment in disaster-resilient infrastructure and early warning systems crucial. The private sector can also play a role through corporate social responsibility programs or partnerships with local governments to accelerate local economic recovery.
Going forward, the question that arises is how effectively this aid reaches all victims and whether the promised socio-economic recovery mechanism can proceed on schedule. With extreme weather intensity predicted to continue, cross-agency preparedness will continue to be tested.
