- Platform X meluncurkan fitur perdagangan langsung yang memungkinkan pengguna AS bertransaksi saham dan kripto melalui mitra broker tanpa keluar aplikasi.
- Langkah ini menegaskan ambisi Elon Musk mengubah X dari media sosial menjadi pusat aktivitas finansial, memanfaatkan posisinya sebagai ruang publik digital.
- Bagi investor Indonesia, fitur ini berpotensi mempercepat arus informasi pasar global, namun akses langsung masih terkendala regulasi dan ketersediaan mitra lokal.

Social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, has officially activated stock and cryptocurrency trading features for users in the United States. The feature allows users to execute transactions directly from the timeline by tapping cashtags such as $BTC or $TSLA, then pressing a "Trade" button linked to one of its broker partners.
The move marks a new chapter in X's transformation from a mere conversation space into a gateway for financial transactions. Previously, cashtags only served as markers for following market discussions. Now, X has added real-time price charts and action buttons that direct users to partner platforms such as Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken, and Coinbase. X itself does not act as a broker; the buying and selling process still takes place on partner exchanges.
The move is a continuation of Musk's effort to make X a broader financial destination. "Cashtags bridge the gap between the ticker on the timeline and the market itself," said Mridul Singhai, X's head of product engineering, in the official announcement. According to him, the feature gives users the flexibility to act quickly on the market information they encounter.
With a daily user base reported to reach 132 million on mobile devices and more than 245 million globally, X holds a unique position as a hub for the crypto community. A single post from an influential figure can move liquidity across exchanges within minutes. This "digital town square" effect sets X apart from platforms like Discord or Telegram, where conversations are fragmented into private channels.

For the Indonesian market, this feature carries dual implications. On one hand, retail investors in the country can monitor global asset price movements more instantly and in an integrated way with market discussions. However, direct access to trade remains limited because the feature currently targets only US users and broker partners registered there. Domestic regulations, including the roles of OJK and Bappebti, are also a major hurdle before similar integration can be implemented in Indonesia.
Nevertheless, the presence of this feature underscores the trend of convergence between social media and financial services. Other platforms such as TikTok and Meta have earlier explored shopping and payment features, but X goes further by touching on investment instruments. If widely adopted, this model could push local brokers to explore similar partnerships, or prompt regulators to tighten oversight of transactions triggered by social media content.
Going forward, the question is no longer whether social media will become part of the financial ecosystem, but how quickly regulatory frameworks across jurisdictions can keep pace with this innovation. Without adequate oversight, the ease of trading from the timeline could amplify the risk of emotional investment decisions driven by rumors. Conversely, with proper governance, X has the potential to become a bridge between market literacy and real action for millions of retail investors globally.
