ITV has officially released the latest Coronation Street trailer showing a dangerous love triangle between Jodie Ramsey, her older sister Shona, and Shona's husband, David Platt. A family conflict that has long simmered is slowly turning into an open threat, marking one of the darkest storylines of the season.
Jodie, played by Olivia Frances Brown, has long harbored a grudge against Shona (Julia Goulding) over Shona's decision to run away from home as a pregnant teenager. That grudge has now turned into an obsession with David (Jack P. Shepherd). In the released clip, Jodie openly says that David "deserves someone who treats him right" โ a line that sparks Shona's fury.
Shona, aware of her sister's behavior, immediately warns Jodie to back off. "Before I drag you out of here," she says in the trailer. The production team, in a press release, teases viewers: how far will Jodie go to get what she wants, and how far is Shona willing to go to stop her?
Olivia Frances Brown admits her character has "lost the plot" and genuinely believes David is the solution to all her problems. "Jodie has convinced herself that David represents her future happiness. She's unhinged and truly believes David is the answer to everything she wants," she says. "When pushed, we never know what Jodie is capable of. She has a lot of dark secrets and a real evil side."
The storyline heats up further with Jodie swapping her father Doug's antipsychotic medication for painkillers in next week's episode. The act confirms that Jodie is not merely a troublemaker but a serious threat to her family's safety. Olivia also hints that Christmas will be a dark moment for Jodie. "It's going to be a bleak Christmas for Jodie, that's all I can say... Everyone will enjoy it," she told Metro.

The story emerges alongside Coronation Street's success at the Soap Awards. The series took home nine trophies, including the prestigious Best Soap award. Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd Grimshaw, was named Best Actor and also won Best Storyline for the abuse storyline involving Todd and Theo Silverton (James Cartwright). James himself won Best Villain, beating rivals from other soaps. Vicky Myers (Lisa Connor-Swain) took Best Actress, while the Best Showstopper category went to the Coronation Street-Emmerdale crossover titled Corriedale.
For Indonesian viewers, the Coronation Street phenomenon is more than just entertainment. The British soap has become a barometer for serial drama industries in many countries, including Indonesia, in terms of writing family conflict and developing antagonist characters. Corrie's success at this year's awards shows that stories bold enough to tackle mental health issues, domestic abuse, and dark obsession still resonate with audiences. On the other hand, the antipsychotic medication-swapping scene can spark discussion about the importance of medication supervision for people with mental disorders โ an issue that is also relevant in Indonesia, where stigma around mental health remains strong.
Going forward, the question is no longer whether Shona will forgive her sister, but whether Jodie will go further and hurt David or another family member. With ratings continuing to climb and industry recognition, Coronation Street seems to deliberately blur the line between family drama and psychological thriller. Will loyal viewers stay to watch Jodie's downfall, or will they turn against her? Time will tell, but one thing is certain: Weatherfield will never be the same after this Christmas.
