Actress Keke Palmer revealed that a mom group she met at her son's school has become a source of strength and happiness in her life. In an interview with People, the 33-year-old described the group as a "real blessing" that helps her navigate her role as a single parent.
Palmer, who shares a 3-year-old son named Leo with her ex-partner Darius Jackson, admitted she never expected to find such a solid circle of friends. She met the mothers when she first enrolled Leo in school. According to Palmer, they immediately embraced her and offered unconditional help. "They've been moms longer, most of them have two older kids, so they're seasoned. As a single mom, they just jumped right in and were like, 'We're here to help you with whatever you need,'" she said.
For Palmer, the group's presence is more than just friends to share stories with. She confessed her life has completely transformed. "We always have plans. We play pickleball together, we work out together, we get the kids together. We're even going to watch Oprah soon. We're so busy, it's amazing. It's a whole new life," she shared.
This lifestyle change, it turns out, made Palmer feel like her life was mirroring the character she plays in Peacock's mystery-comedy series, The Burbs. She laughed, "They put me in a country club. I literally feel like I'm in The 'Burbs, my TV show. My life is so meta. It's almost ridiculous."
In a separate interview with Extra, Palmer also spoke about her hopes for Leo. She wants her son not to be afraid to keep evolving. "Never be afraid to evolve. We often get stuck in our own storylines, and even when it's hard, it's hard to get out. But you can always change. You can be someone new and let happiness, joy, and peace be your guiding forces," she said. She added, "I want him to know that happiness is his for the taking, but we have to take it."
Palmer's story highlights the importance of social support for parents, especially single mothers. In Indonesia, the phenomenon of mom groups or parenting communities is also increasingly prevalent, both in school environments and online. They not only share parenting tips but also serve as crucial emotional support systems. According to child psychologists, involvement in such communities can reduce stress and improve parents' mental well-being.
For Palmer, these friendships also prove that career and personal life can go hand-in-hand. She remains active in the entertainment industry but doesn't forget her role as a mother. "I love being a mom and my mom group. We're like a tight-knit band of thieves, and they're amazing women," she concluded.
Looking ahead, Palmer plans to continue living this new life. She will even watch Oprah with her group, a moment she looks forward to. Meanwhile, fans can see her in The Burbs, where she plays a character whose life now feels remarkably similar to reality. Will this new social life influence her roles on the big screen? Time will tell, but one thing is certain: for Palmer, happiness indeed must be seized.
