The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has opened an investigation into Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Nusron Wahid over alleged bribery and other illicit payments at the ministry he leads. The move follows the naming of four people believed to be Nusron's confidants as suspects in a sting operation (OTT) conducted in the Greater Jakarta area.
Acting KPK Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein said Nusron's name had come up in several examinations. "Regarding NW, it has been mentioned in the examinations. The investigation team is currently looking into it," he said at a press conference at the Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Tuesday (15/9) evening. Taufik stressed, however, that the investigation is still ongoing and that no final conclusion has been reached on the minister's involvement.
In the operation carried out on Monday (14/9), the KPK detained 19 peopleโpreviously reported as 17โin the Greater Jakarta area. Of that number, eight were officially named suspects and immediately detained for an initial 20 days until 4 October 2026. Four suspects are described as Nusron's confidants: former Kebumen Regent Arif Sugiyanto; Golkar Party politician Fahd El Fouz, also known as Fahd A Rafiq; and two private individuals, Erwin and Muhammad Fakhry.
The other four suspects come from bureaucratic and corporate circles: Head of the Bogor Regency Land Office Sontang Coin Manurung; President Director of PT Summarecon Agung Tbk Adrianto Pitojo Adhi; Director General of Land and Spatial Control and Enforcement at the Ministry of ATR/BPN Lampri; and Rizal Pahlevi (private individual). Adrianto and Rizal are accused of being the bribe givers, while Sontang, Erwin, Lampri, Arif, Fahd, and Fakhry face charges of accepting bribes and gratuities.
The case highlights the fragility of land governance in Indonesia, a sector that is frequently a source of disputes and corruption. The involvement of an active minister in a KPK investigation raises questions about the independence of agrarian policy and potential conflicts of interest. Nusron Wahid, also a Golkar Party politician, has not responded even though CNNIndonesia.com contacted two of his phone numbers. Text messages also went unanswered, reportedly because the numbers were inactive.
"This is only just beginning as far as the Sprindik itself is concerned. We will see how the investigation develops going forward," Taufik said, signaling that the probe will be lengthy.
For property businesses and members of the public processing land certificates, this uncertainty could slow down permitting and raise transaction costs. Summarecon Agung, as a major property issuer, could face market pressure if the case continues. Investors will be watching whether the KPK can trace the flow of funds to the main actors, or whether the investigation stops at the operational level.
The KPK has limited time to complete the case files and determine whether Nusron will be upgraded to suspect status. The public is waiting to see whether the anti-graft agency will dare to touch high-ranking officials, or once again fall into a pattern of uneven law enforcement. In the coming weeks, political pressure and public opinion will test the credibility of the KPK under its current leadership.
