JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto's administration has chosen not to interfere in the legal process ensnaring one of its ministers. Deputy Minister of State Secretariat Bambang Eko Suhariyanto stressed that the head of state is leaving the alleged bribery case involving Building Rights (HGB) permits that has implicated Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (BPN) Nusron Wahid entirely to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
"The President always says that if there is a legal matter, leave it to law enforcement. He will not interfere," Bambang said at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (16/9/2026). The statement came two days after the KPK conducted a sting operation (OTT) on Monday (14/9/2026), seizing more than Rp106.3 billion in cash from a residence in Cibubur, East Jakarta.
The money was found in dozens of suitcases and cardboard boxes. The KPK named four people as suspects, including Arif Sugiyanto, also known as Gus Arif, the former regent of Kebumen who is said to be a Nusron confidant and the main field operator. In carrying out his actions, Gus Arif is alleged to have been assisted by Fahd A Rafiq, a Golkar Party politician who acted as a fundraiser.
Bambang declined to speculate about Nusron's involvement. According to him, the public should wait for the official investigation results. "That is still an allegation. Just wait for the KPK," he said firmly. He also reminded all parties not to get ahead of the legal process, including drawing conclusions before investigators name a suspect.
"We are leaving it entirely to the KPK. Later, from the investigation, we will know who is named a suspect," Bambang said.
The case has drawn attention because it directly touches the property and permitting sectors. PT Summarecon Agung Tbk, a property issuer listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, is mentioned in the alleged bribery over HGB processing. For investors, legal uncertainty in spatial planning and land affairs could affect the property investment climate, especially for projects that depend on permitting certainty.
Public policy observers say the government's credibility in fighting corruption is being tested. If this case proceeds to court with strong evidence, the market will read it as a positive signal that law enforcement does not discriminate. Conversely, if the investigation stalls, business players' trust in regulatory certainty could erode.
On the other hand, the Ministry of ATR/BPN has a strategic role in handling land certification and HGB, which form the foundation for property projects. Disruption at this institution could slow the permitting process, ultimately affecting the costs and schedules of area development.
As of this report being published, there has been no official statement from Nusron Wahid or PT Summarecon Agung Tbk. The KPK is scheduled to announce developments in the investigation soon. The public and market players are waiting to see whether this case will reveal a wider network or stop at the initial four suspects.
The big question: will the KPK investigation reach actors at the policy level, or will it stop only at field operators? The answer will not only determine the direction of the case but also shape perceptions of the current administration's anti-corruption commitment.
