Surprising news has come from Fallout star Walton Goggins. Through an Instagram post, he hinted that filming for the third season has been completed, while also raising a big question mark over the continuation of his role as The Ghoul.
Goggins' remark, "Just took it off for the last time," referring to the extensive prosthetic makeup of his iconic character, immediately sparked speculation among fans. Does this mean he has finished his part in the third season only, or does it mark his final appearance in the series adapted from the legendary game franchise?
Certainty about Goggins' status is crucial given that The Ghoul, or Cooper Howard, is one of the main narrative pillars of Fallout. Without his presence, the direction of the story is predicted to undergo a major overhaul. So far, Amazon MGM as the production house has not issued an official statement regarding the actor's future or the series' continuation to a fourth season.
Nevertheless, a signal about the series' longevity comes from another actor. Aaron Moten, who plays Maximus, in an interview at Comic Con Liverpool 2025 revealed that he had been told the story's endpoint from the start. "It's the end of season 5 or 6," he said, indicating that Fallout is designed to run for at least a fifth or sixth season.
Given the previous production pattern, the third season will most likely only premiere in late 2027. This long gap is reasonable considering the massive scale of production and the complexity of the prosthetic makeup that is a hallmark of the series. Fans in Indonesia will also have to be patient, as Prime Video has not announced an official release schedule.
Besides Goggins, the third season will feature new faces such as Aaron Paul, Emily Mortimer, Manny Jacinto, and Thomasin McKenzie. However, their roles are still being kept secret. The presence of these big names adds to the appeal of Fallout as one of the most successful video game adaptations on streaming services, proving that a careful and creative adaptation formula can produce quality work.
"I hope this road or this song never ends," Goggins wrote in his post, describing how deeply attached he is to this project.
Going forward, the question of whether the third season will be the end of The Ghoul's journey or rather the beginning of a new chapter for Cooper Howard remains unresolved. One thing is certain: Fallout has established itself as a pop culture phenomenon that is hard to ignore, and the creative decisions behind the scenes will greatly determine the direction of the story of Lucy, Maximus, and of course, The Ghoul.
