Kelly Osbourne marked her 42nd birthday on Tuesday (27/10/26) in a way far removed from a raucous party. On her Instagram account, she posted a photo of herself hugging her father, Ozzy Osbourne, on a sofa—an image that immediately drew public attention and triggered a wave of sympathy.
Ozzy, the heavy metal icon who died in July 2025 at the age of 76, left a deep wound for Kelly. In the caption, she wrote a touching message: “Birthdays are a reminder of the life you gave me, Dad. I wish you were still here to celebrate with me.” She added that every candle she blows out carries the same wish—one more moment with her father.
This year's grief, however, came with a small surprise that invited a smile. Sidney, Kelly's son who is just three years old, gave her an “emotional support bat”—a plush bat to provide emotional comfort. The gift was clearly a playful nod to the legendary moment when Ozzy bit the head off a live bat on stage in 1982. Sidney also gave her a bat-shaped keychain, which Kelly greeted with admiration.
“If today wasn't emotional enough, my darling boy did this! I am so lucky to be his mother! He truly is the best thing that has ever happened in my life,” Kelly wrote in a video post showing the moment.
Sidney is the child of Kelly and Slipknot member Sid Wilson. The couple reportedly separated in March this year, adding another layer of complexity to Kelly's personal life. Nevertheless, support poured in from various quarters, including Paris Hilton, who left a brief comment: “Happy Birthday love.” Fans also flooded the family with well-wishes for the Osbournes.
Behind that poignant moment, Kelly's health has come under scrutiny. After Ozzy's passing, her mental and physical condition declined sharply. Her appearance at the Brit Awards in February 2026 raised concerns because her body looked extremely thin. Kelly said she was shocked when she saw photos of herself. “I didn't realize I looked like that until I saw the photo. I was as shocked as everyone else,” she told Fabulous magazine. She stressed that her weight loss was not caused by an eating disorder, but because she simply could not take care of herself at all—eating made her nauseous.
Kelly's story is not merely a portrait of a celebrity's grief. In Indonesia, the loss of a parental figure often triggers untreated mental health crises. Patriarchal culture and the stigma around counseling lead many people to bury their sense of loss, which then manifests as physical ailments. Kelly, through her openness, is not seeking sympathy; she is showing that profound grief can erode both body and soul—a reminder that psychological support is not a luxury.
Looking ahead, the remaining question is: will Kelly be able to rise from the shadow of loss, or will she sink deeper into sorrow? The public surely hopes she finds strength, especially for Sidney, who is now her main reason to keep going. As Kelly herself put it, “He is the best thing that has ever happened.”
