After years of community pressure, Epic Games has finally confirmed a Fortnite collaboration with One Piece through the first trailer for a mini-season titled Treasure Hunters. The announcement answers the fanatical demand that has flooded social media, and marks Epic's aggressive move to embrace Japanese pop culture.
Fortnite Treasure Hunters is scheduled to launch on 1 November, alongside a new Fortnite Festival season. The season carries a piracy and anime theme, bringing Luffy and the Straw Hat crew to the Battle Royale island. Notably, Epic is not only adding One Piece characters but also names such as Kasane Teto, Hatsune Miku, Lil Uzi Vert, and A$AP Rocky—a mix that shows the company's ambition to unite various fan demographics in one game ecosystem.
On the gameplay side, the trailer shows several elements that will change the combat experience. The season's map is shaped like a skull, and players will drop from the Going Merry ship, which replaces the Battle Bus. Despite the anime theme, Epic chose not to use a cel-shaded style on the map, a decision that may be intended to stay consistent with Fortnite's familiar aesthetic.
The abilities on offer are no small matter either. The Gum Gum Pistol lets players fire a rubber hand in Luffy's style, while Zoro's three-sword attack will most likely be Mythic—a rare item that is often highly sought after. Nami's oranges and Usopp's slingshot are predicted to function as healing items and a ranged weapon. These details show that Epic is not merely slapping on skins but integrating One Piece story elements into the game mechanics.
"This is the moment fans have waited for after years of speculation," reads the common thread emerging in the community, though Epic itself has not issued an official statement on the Battle Pass details.
So far, Epic is still keeping secret which skins will go into the Battle Pass, Festival Pass, the November Fortnite Crew Pack, or be sold in the Item Shop. However, keen observers have found hints that Sanji may be a bonus skin, similar to how Springfielder Peely was handled in The Simpsons mini-season. Sanji's blond hair is faintly visible in several trailer shots, fueling speculation on fan forums.
For the global game industry, Epic's move reinforces the crossover strategy as an engine for revenue growth and player engagement. Fortnite has long been known as a flexible "metaverse," a place where franchises—from Marvel to Star Wars—come together. The collaboration with One Piece, one of the best-selling manga of all time, could draw millions of anime fans who have never touched Battle Royale. On the other hand, One Piece also benefits from new exposure in the Western gaming market, which has long been dominated by shooter titles.
Even so, challenges remain. The Fortnite community is often critical of mini-seasons that feel rushed or lack punch. The decision not to feature a cel-shaded map could draw mixed reactions, given the strong expectations for anime visuals. Epic will seemingly need to ensure that the items and abilities on offer are truly balanced so as not to disrupt competition.
What is clear is that 1 November will be a test for Epic in managing the hype. Will this collaboration be a passing fad, or one of the most successful seasons in Fortnite history? One Piece and Fortnite fans alike are waiting, and the answer will soon be visible on that skull-shaped island.
