A teenage Persib Bandung supporter, ARK (16), died after being slashed while on his way home from watching a match at Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor Regency, on Sunday (25/10) night. The incident once again raises questions about the effectiveness of supporter security and law enforcement against street violence that often shadows Indonesian football.
The incident began when the victim and a friend rode a motorcycle along Jalan Raya Bogor. At KM 51, right in front of Q Square mall, they crossed paths with a suspect identified by the initials MR, who was allegedly carrying a sickle. According to the Head of Public Relations at Bogor Police, Ipda Sigit Wahyudi, the suspect then swung the sickle at the victim's back, causing the victim to fall. "The victim was found lying in the middle of the road by his friend," Sigit told reporters on Tuesday (27/10).
After carrying out the attack, MR reportedly threw the sickle into a ditch not far from the scene. Police who received the report moved quickly. Thanks to witness statements and evidence at the scene, MR was arrested in the Kaumpandak area, Karadenan, Bogor Regency, less than 24 hours after the incident. "Information from the public and supporting evidence allowed us to secure the suspect quickly," Sigit said.
In handling the case, investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit together with the Women's and Children's Protection and Community Policing Unit of Bogor Police are still examining the suspect's role and the possibility of others' involvement. Police are also continuing to gather witness statements to complete the investigation file. So far, the motive for the slashing has not been disclosed in detail, including whether the incident was linked to rivalry between supporters.
"This incident is a reminder that juvenile delinquency, group violence, and the use of sharp weapons can end fatally, take lives, and destroy the future of the younger generation," Sigit stressed.
The case has drawn the attention of Indonesian football fans, especially because it involved a minor. Persib Bandung, through its official Instagram account, expressed deep condolences. The club posted a message titled "Rumah Adalah Tempat Kemenangan Sejati!" (Home Is Where True Victory Lies!) with the hashtag #BobotohBerduka. "Deep sorrow has enveloped the extended Persib family over the passing of a Bobotoh from Bogor after watching last night's match," the club management wrote.
Violence involving football supporters is nothing new in Indonesia. Various previous incidents have prompted regulatory improvements, including sanctions for clubs and crowd permit arrangements. However, the incident in Bogor shows that prevention efforts have not fully borne fruit. Police observers assess that law enforcement against perpetrators of street violence needs to be strengthened, while the development of young supporters must involve schools, families, and communities.
Bogor Police urged parents to monitor their children's activities more closely, build open communication, and instill values of discipline and responsibility. The public is also asked to actively report potential security disturbances. "We are committed to handling this case professionally, objectively, and in accordance with legal provisions," Sigit concluded.
Going forward, the public awaits whether this case will become a turning point in handling supporter violence, or merely another grim statistic in Indonesian football. What is clear is that a teenager's life has been lost simply because he was going home from watching a match that should have been entertainment.
