Target has officially launched a limited-edition tech collection inspired by the Netflix and Sony animated film KPop Demon Hunters. The collection is produced by Target's in-house brand, heyday, and includes headphones, power banks, and charging ports designed to resemble main characters such as Rumi, Zoey, and Mira from the group Huntr/x. The move marks a shift in merchandising strategy from targeting children to adult consumers.
Until now, KPop Demon Hunters merchandise has been dominated by toys and figures aimed at children. But the film's popularity has evidently reached adults as well, who crave functional products with a nostalgic touch. Target, through heyday, seized that opportunity by offering everyday tech devices that still carry the film's aesthetic. The Rumi headphones come in striking yellow with stickers on each side, mimicking her iconic jacket. Meanwhile, the Zoey headphones are green to match her stage costume, and Mira appears in dark pink, reflecting her calmer personality.
Beyond the Huntr/x trio, the collection also features merchandise referencing fan-favorite characters such as Derpy Cat and Saja Boys. One item that stands out is Saja Boys' 'Soda Pop' speaker, shaped like a soda can. The uniqueness of this design not only reinforces the film's identity but also offers aesthetic value for consumers who want to express their love for the film without sacrificing style.
"This collection is the perfect way to bring the spirit of KPop Demon Hunters into daily routines, especially for adult fans who want more than just toys," a Target representative said in a press release.
In terms of price, each item in the collection is priced at $20, both in physical stores and online. That figure is fairly competitive for officially licensed tech devices, especially compared with similar imported merchandise that often sells at higher prices. Target appears to want to reach a broader fan base, including young professionals looking for unique desk accessories.
Target's move also reflects a larger trend in the entertainment industry, where animated franchises no longer rely solely on ticket sales and children's toys. By releasing functional tech products, studios and retailers can extend a franchise's life cycle while building long-term loyalty in the adult segment. Similar efforts have been made by other brands such as Disney with Star Wars- or Marvel-themed homeware collections, which successfully drew collector interest.
For the Indonesian market, it is not yet certain that this collection will arrive officially. However, given the large base of K-pop and animation fans in the country, it is possible that Target or its distribution partners will bring these products to Southeast Asia. If they do, the retail price will likely be adjusted for import costs and taxes, which could make them more expensive than $20. Even so, fan enthusiasm for the film is predicted to remain high.
Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see whether heyday expands its product line with other items such as keyboards, mice, or even more advanced audio devices. If the market response is positive, it is not impossible that this kind of collaboration becomes a new business model for major retailers in monetizing streaming content. The question is, will Target launch another limited edition before the film's sequel is released?
