Hollywood actor Brad Pitt has revealed his emotional experience when he first read the script for his latest film, Heart of the Beast. The 62-year-old admitted to silently crying, deeply moved by the power of the story presented to him.
In an interview with Extra, Pitt recounted that he had to step away for a moment after finishing the script. "I put the script down, then I snuck away and cried quietly. The story really touched me," he said. According to Pitt, if a script can evoke such a strong reaction, then the effort to bring it to the big screen is worth fighting for.
The film tells the story of James Belmont, a special forces officer, who must survive with Odin—his retired combat dog—after their plane crashes in Alaska. The plot centers on their struggle against the wilderness and the emotional bond that develops between them.
For Pitt, the presence of dogs in human life offers a unique perspective. "Life is better with dogs. No matter how tough your day is, as soon as you walk in the house, there's a wagging tail and a joyful welcome. You then think, what was I even complaining about?" he remarked.
He also compared Uber to his other acting colleagues. "Uber is on par with Morgan Freeman and Anthony Hopkins. After that, then come the others," he joked, mentioning George Clooney and Matt Damon as "characters" who are further down the list.
"At this point in my life, I don't really care about anything else other than finding truth and stories that mean something to me, and that I believe I can elevate. Otherwise, I'd rather just sit on the couch."

Pitt admitted that throughout his career, he has become increasingly drawn to projects that are heartfelt and meaningful. Heart of the Beast is one manifestation of this new preference. He also highlighted the importance of human connection. "What are we here for if not to connect, to look after each other, and to make each other better? The human struggle is real, and we can't do it alone," he asserted.
For the global film industry, Pitt's statement marks a shift in the veteran actor's interest towards more intimate and reflective stories. Survival-themed films with human-animal relationship elements often capture audience attention, especially when supported by a big name like Pitt. However, challenges remain: can Heart of the Beast penetrate a sluggish international market, including Indonesia?
In Indonesia, Hollywood films with adventure and personal emotional themes usually receive a warm welcome on streaming platforms and in major cinema chains. Pitt's presence as both producer and lead actor could be a unique draw for local audiences. Nevertheless, the release schedule and distribution strategy will largely determine how far the film reaches the local audience.
Clearly, Pitt no longer seems to be chasing mere popularity. He chooses stories that he believes have weight and resonance. Will this choice bear fruit at the box office, or will it instead confirm that he is now more comfortable behind the scenes? Time will tell, but his career direction is becoming increasingly clear.
