Prabowo Stresses Strict Selection of Outstanding Leaders, Cites Corruption as Threat to the Nation

President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto stressed that the quality of a nation's leaders is determined by a selection process that is not half-hearted. He made the statement while inaugurating SMA Taruna Nusantara Cimahi Campus, West Java, on Friday (30/10), before educators and students. For Prabowo, an outstanding leader is not only about intellectual intelligence, but also physical fitness, strength of spirit, and clarity of heart.
In his speech, Prabowo highlighted the strategic role of education as the main foundation in realizing the ideals of the nation's founders. He assessed that efforts to bring about a free and just state must begin with nurturing from an early age, even before a child is born through parental education. "Education from the very beginning, education from before birth, parental education, early childhood education, kindergarten education, elementary school education, middle school, first, secondary school, and so on," he said.
Furthermore, Prabowo emphasized that access to quality education must not be limited by economic background, ethnicity, race, or religion. That spirit of equality, according to him, is the main foundation for the establishment of SMA Taruna Nusantara, which was designed from the outset to recruit the best seeds from all corners of Indonesia. He believes that graduates of educational institutions like this will make real contributions in the form of works, discoveries, and wealth for the country.
Prabowo also reminded that large investment in the education sector must be supported by management of state wealth that is clean from corruption, misappropriation, and abuse of authority. He stated that the nation's resources must be secured and safeguarded, not plundered. "Corruption, misappropriation, abuse of authority, are in truth the beginning of the nation's destruction," he stressed.
