Persija Jakarta's ambition to extend their perfect start in the BRI Super League 2026/2027 was dashed after being held to a 2-2 draw by Persita Tangerang in the fifth matchweek at Banten International Stadium on Saturday (17/10/2026). The result also ended Macan Kemayoran's run of four consecutive wins since the start of the season.
The match was played at a high tempo from the opening minute. Persita, playing as the home side, immediately surprised their visitors through Luquinhas' early goal in the fourth minute. Starting from Rayco Rodriguez's individual run on the left flank, his cross was headed home by Luquinhas to open the scoring.
However, Persija needed little time to respond. In the 17th minute, Fabio Calonego equalized after pouncing on a rebound inside the penalty box. After that, Shin Tae-yong's side took control of the game and created several chances, though they failed to convert them into goals until halftime.
Entering the second half, Persija kept pressing. Yet it was Persita who regained the lead in the 60th minute through Rayco Rodriguez's powerful strike from outside the penalty box, capitalizing on a well-designed corner-kick routine.
Persija drew level from the spot in the 73rd minute after Dion Markx fouled Rayhan Hannan. Alexander Jeremejeff, appointed as the executor, made no mistake, beating the Persita goalkeeper to make it 2-2.
When the match appeared set to end in a draw, Persita scored the winning goal in the 90+5th minute through Aleksa Andrejic. Starting from Hokky Caraka's quick acceleration, his well-placed pass was finished off neatly by Andrejic, ensuring the hosts earned an extra point and preserved their unbeaten record.
With this result, Persija stay top with 13 points, while Persita have collected 11 points and sit in third place. The defeat is a blow for Macan Kemayoran, who are building momentum under Shin Tae-yong. Nevertheless, the South Korean coach believes his team still showed positive quality of play.
"We lost focus in the final minutes. This is a valuable lesson, but we will bounce back," Shin Tae-yong said in a post-match press conference.
On the other side, Persita proved they are not a team to be underestimated. With a relatively younger squad, Pendekar Cisadane are able to compete at the top. Persita coach Widodo C Putro called the result the fruit of hard work from the entire team.
"We played with discipline and made the most of our chances. Young players like Hokky Caraka are showing rapid development," Widodo said.
The match also highlighted the role of young players in the domestic competition. Hokky Caraka, who came on as a substitute in the 32nd minute, was the creator of the winning goal. Meanwhile, Nadeo Argawinata between the Persija posts made several important saves, though he conceded twice.
Going forward, Persija face a busy schedule with matches against Bali United and Borneo FC. Persita, meanwhile, will travel to PSM Makassar. Will Persija return to winning ways, or will Persita keep rolling? The competition in the BRI Super League this season is increasingly compelling to follow.
