Nintendo and Intelligent Systems have surprise-announced expansions for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave through three waves of additional content that players can access starting now. The announcement answers fans’ longing for classic elements of the series while marking a new post-release chapter for a game that has earned critical and commercial acclaim since September 2026.
The first wave brings four new weapons called Prototypes, available through the Expansion Pass on the Nintendo eShop. These weapons are adapted from the Heroes’ Relics in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, offering tactical variety for players who want to explore different fighting styles. Meanwhile, the second wave, scheduled to arrive in the 2026 holiday season, will add new costumes and allies to the player’s ranks.
The four Flame Lords—Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda—will receive additional outfits that can be changed at any time. Notably, these costumes can also be worn by allies, allowing every unit in a team to appear in their favorite faction’s colors. In addition, players will get the chance to control the Dagdan gods—Aurora, Smyrnos, and Jurah—in Part 3, joining the Promised One’s forces. Their power is not absolute and they can fall, but their combat contribution is expected to be highly dominant.
However, the main highlight lies in the third wave, which will add four new stories focusing on rival lords: Anatolia, Talimun, Orchel, and Bertrand. These four figures were originally planned as protagonists in Fortune’s Weave, but Intelligent Systems trimmed them down to four main characters because it was considered too ambitious, then added the avatar Eshmel to unify the plot. Now, after fan pressure that has continued since launch, the development team appears to have changed its decision and is bringing back the routes that were once lost.
The decision to revive the cancelled routes is inseparable from the dynamics of the modern game industry. Vocal fan demand through social media and forums is often an important consideration for developers revising post-release content. Even so, limited development time and narrative complexity mean Intelligent Systems has not set a definite date for the third wave, beyond an indication that the content will only arrive after 2027.
"We hear the fans, and we want to give the best experience to those who have waited faithfully," said an Intelligent Systems representative in an AMA session, as quoted from the source.
For fans in Indonesia, this expansion is a breath of fresh air amid a strategy RPG market dominated by mobile titles. The presence of paid DLC with substantial content shows that the post-release expansion model remains relevant for premium games, especially on the Nintendo Switch platform, which has a loyal user base in the country. Although the Expansion Pass price has not been officially announced for the Indonesian region, players can monitor the eShop for further information.
With three waves covering weapons, costumes, allies, and new routes, Fortune’s Weave has the potential to extend its life cycle for several years to come. The question now is whether Intelligent Systems can meet high expectations without sacrificing the narrative quality that has long been the series’ strength. Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Fire Emblem fans have plenty of reasons to stay loyal.
