Mourning has enveloped the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi). Sjamsul Kahar bin M. Daham Nuh, the father of Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria, passed away on Thursday (24/9) at 02.20 WIB at RSUD Zainul Abidin, Banda Aceh. Nezar confirmed the news through a post on his personal Instagram account.
Sjamsul Kahar was no ordinary figure in Aceh. He was known as the Founder and General Manager of the daily Serambi Indonesia, one of the largest newspapers in the westernmost province of Indonesia. His passing marks the end of an important chapter in the history of the region's press, while leaving a legacy for Aceh's generation of journalists.
In a short message, Nezar Patria conveyed an apology on behalf of the family. "Please forgive all of the deceased's mistakes during his lifetime. May Allah SWT accept all his acts of worship," he wrote. The body will be buried at the Taman Abadi Cemetery, Kampung Mulia, Banda Aceh.
For Nezar Patria, this is a profound personal loss. However, its impact is also felt in government circles, given his position as deputy minister in the communication and digital sector. Support and condolences are expected to pour in from various parties, including cabinet colleagues and media industry players.
"Please forgive all of the deceased's mistakes during his lifetime. May Allah SWT accept all his acts of worship. Aamiin ya rabbal alamin." โ Nezar Patria
Sjamsul Kahar's passing reminds us of the vital role of regional press figures in building a healthy information ecosystem. Serambi Indonesia, under his leadership, has been a primary reference for the people of Aceh for decades. His contribution was not limited to reporting, but also to empowering human resources in journalism.
From an industry perspective, figures like Sjamsul Kahar are guardians of the print journalism tradition that now faces heavy challenges from digital platforms. His legacy is a mirror of how local media can survive and adapt without losing cultural roots and closeness to readers.
This news of mourning also highlights the human side of public officials. Amid the busy work of managing complex digital policies, Nezar Patria must face an emotional trial. The public is also reminded that behind a position, there are irreplaceable family ties.
Going forward, the baton of leadership at Serambi Indonesia and Sjamsul Kahar's role in Aceh's press world will become questions. Who will continue his vision? And how will Nezar Patria himself bring the values instilled by his father into his state duties? Only time can answer, but one thing is certain: Sjamsul Kahar's footprints will live on in every page of the newspaper and in the memory of the people of Aceh.
