50,000 Workers Surround Jakarta, Polda Metro Jaya Imposes Traffic Diversions from 10:00

An estimated 50,000 workers filled Jakarta on Thursday (24/9) to press their demands regarding the Labor Protection Bill. The rally, initiated by the Great Coalition of Indonesian Workers' Struggle (KBPBI), is aimed directly at President Prabowo Subianto, making it one of the largest demonstrations in recent months.

President of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers' Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, stressed that the crowd would gather in the Semanggi area from 10:00 WIB before moving to the front of UOB, not far from Grand Indonesia. He denied reports that the gathering point was at the Bundaran HI. "It is not true that the gathering point is at Bundaran HI. There is a lot of hoax information. The gathering point starts at Semanggi and we will wait for the delegation in front of UOB," Andi Gani said.

In response, Polda Metro Jaya has prepared traffic diversions that will be in effect from 10:00 WIB until the rally ends. The arrangements are situational, adjusting to field conditions and officers' directions. Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Budi Hermanto, emphasized that security would be carried out humanely. According to him, expressing opinions in public is a constitutional right that must be protected. "Democracy provides space for the public to convey their thoughts and aspirations. The National Police is present to serve and protect that space so that people can express their opinions safely, peacefully, and orderly," Budi said in Jakarta, Wednesday (23/9).
