The shift in Gomis's status is visible in his minutes. He has collected 229 minutes in the Bundesliga, placing him ninth in the Leipzig squad. Among attacking players, only Antonio Nusa and Christopher Nkunku have logged more time. Only Nusa also has a higher goal involvement (two goals, two assists) than Gomis so far.
This surge is not without reason. Leipzig lost two key players in attack: Christoph Baumgartner is still sidelined with a long-term injury, while Yan Diomande has moved to Real Madrid. Both were among the four players with the most minutes last season. Gomis did not waste the opening, immediately showing his quality.
Coach Martín Demichelis acknowledges that flexibility is Gomis's main added value. "He had a very good pre-season and worked hard in various positions," Demichelis said. "He can play on the right wing, the left wing, or in the middle. He just needs to be ready and fight for his place." Even so, competition in Leipzig's forward line remains fierce. Besides Nusa and Nkunku, there are Brajan Gruda, Assan Ouédraogo, Rômulo, and Johan Bakayoko, who are also eyeing minutes. Gomis must stay consistent if he wants to keep his position. However, a positive signal has come at international level: he has just received his first call-up to the France U21 national team, after previously training with the pre-Euro group under Gérald Baticle in May 2025.
For Indonesian football fans, Gomis's story mirrors how European clubs give space to young talent when senior players are absent. In the Indonesian Liga, similar opportunities are often hampered by minimal rotation and the pressure for instant results.
