Tinashe Sets a New Standard for Opening Concerts: Only for Artists Who Understand Her Vision

The 33-year-old singer has made it clear that she will not accept any offer to open for any artist unless there is a shared artistic vision. This principle led her to an agreement to open two Harry Styles concerts at State Farm Stadium, Phoenix, Arizona, on April 2 and 3, 2027, as part of the Together, Together tour.
The decision was not without reason. Tinashe has had extensive experience as an opening act for big names such as Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, and Katy Perry. However, she said she has reached a point where comfort and freedom of expression onstage are top priorities. "I won't open for anyone unless I feel they truly understand who I am," she said at the Spotify x Coach event on Wednesday (16/9/2026).
For her, Harry Styles meets those criteria. Tinashe considers the "Watermelon Sugar" singer very open to artistic exploration and prioritizes a fun experience for fans. "At the end of the day, that's the point: to be able to enter a room, meet people, and connect through music and performance," she added.
Tinashe's enthusiasm is clear. She calls performing in a stadium a thrilling new experience. "I've never performed my songs in a stadium. This is going to be incredible," she said. This opportunity is also a stage for Tinashe to introduce her work to Harry Styles' massive fan base.
The Together, Together tour itself is a major phenomenon. Beginning in May 2026 with 67 shows in cities around the world, the tour is now entering a 30-night residency at Madison Square Garden, New York—a record for Harry Styles. In 2027, the tour will travel through Dallas, Los Angeles, Toronto, Atlanta, and Chicago, before crossing to Europe for concerts in Berlin, Paris, Madrid, Rome, and Dublin, then closing with three nights at Wembley Stadium, London.
In addition to an eclectic lineup of performers, the tour also carries a social and environmental mission. Harry Styles continues his partnership with Choose Love to support humanitarian work. In London, £1 from every ticket sold goes to LIVE Trust to protect grassroots music venues. Fans in the United States can register to vote at HeadCount pop-ups. Sustainability efforts are also being made through Green Nation, including reducing single-use materials and using HVO fuel to cut emissions.
"I'm so excited to perform in Phoenix. It's going to be so much fun! I've never performed my songs in a stadium!"
— Tinashe
For the global music industry, Tinashe's decision reflects a shift in values among established musicians: choosing projects that align with artistic identity rather than merely chasing exposure. Meanwhile, for fans in Indonesia, the tour does not reach Southeast Asia, but its pattern of curating performers and its social mission could serve as a reference for domestic concert promoters who want to deliver a more meaningful experience. Will a similar standard—where opening artists are chosen based on artistic understanding, not merely popularity—become a new trend on the world music stage?
