Walmart has once again shaken up the gadget market with a steep discount on the 15.6-inch Tpv laptop. In the Walmart Deals promotion, the device originally priced at $299 is now selling for $219, a 27% cut billed as a limited Flash Deal. The move targets consumers looking for a cheap laptop for basic needs, especially ahead of the year-end holiday season.
Although the price is tempting, prospective buyers should scrutinize the specifications on offer. The laptop is powered by an Intel Celeron N4000 processor, an older chip designed for fanless, power-efficient devices. Its performance is adequate for running office applications, browsing the web, and streaming video, but not for heavy tasks such as video editing or gaming. With 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, the device can handle light multitasking and store the Windows 11 Pro operating system along with pre-installed apps such as Microsoft Office 365 and Google Workspace.
The 15.6-inch screen with Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution and Intel UHD graphics offers sharp visuals for an entry-level laptop. Its light weight and portable design make it suitable for daily mobility, whether for students or workers who move around frequently. Buyer reviews on Walmart say the laptop is easy to use, has long battery life, and is suitable as a first device for children or adult users with basic needs.
For Indonesian consumers, the $219 price is equivalent to around Rp3.4 million (exchange rate Rp15,500). That figure is competitive in the local market, where laptops with similar specifications such as Intel Celeron or equivalent are usually sold for Rp3.5โ4.5 million. However, there are several important caveats: the product is not officially marketed in Indonesia, so warranty and after-sales service are a challenge. Buying from abroad also risks import duties and taxes that can add 20โ30% to the cost.
If you are interested, consider comparing it with local brands offering equivalent specifications, such as Asus or Lenovo with the latest generation Intel Celeron processors. In the global market, this laptop competes with the 15.6-inch Asus Chromebook sold for $219 and the 11.6-inch Lenovo Chromebook priced at $337. The main difference lies in the operating system: the Tpv runs Windows 11 Pro, while the Chromebook uses Chrome OS, which is lighter but limited to web-based applications.
"This laptop is exactly as described. The battery lasts a long time and the storage space is large," said a buyer at Walmart.
Even so, the Celeron N4000 is quite old and will not be able to run heavy applications in the future. For those who need a device for high productivity, it is better to increase the budget for an Intel Core i3 or Ryzen 3 processor. However, for basic needs such as typing, browsing, and video calls, this laptop is still relevant.
Going forward, the entry-level laptop price war is predicted to intensify with the arrival of new-generation power-efficient chips. The question is whether manufacturers will continue to sacrifice performance for a low price, or start offering better specifications in the sub-$250 segment. Consumers certainly hope for the latter.
