- Jim Adkins, vokalis Jimmy Eat World, menjalani operasi darurat akibat retina terlepas yang mengancam penglihatannya.

Jimmy Eat World was forced to cancel two festival appearances from their tour schedule after vocalist Jim Adkins underwent emergency surgery due to a detached retina. The condition was discovered just before the band was set to take the stage in Mexico City on September 13.
Adkins revealed that he saw "a cloud-like shadow creeping into his vision" before performing. After researching, he realized he needed to seek medical help immediately. Tests confirmed a detached retina and he had to undergo surgery as soon as possible. A detached retina is a condition where the tissue layer at the back of the eye detaches from its normal position and requires surgical correction.
In a statement on Instagram, Adkins said that according to doctor's instructions, forcing himself to perform could cause permanent damage. "We had to make the difficult decision to cancel our performances," he wrote. He is now recovering at home. However, the condition also prevented the band from fulfilling their schedule at Louder than Life in Louisville, Kentucky, and Shaky Knees in Atlanta, Georgia.
This cancellation decision highlights the physical pressures musicians face on a packed tour. Tight schedules, long journeys, and stage demands often ignore the body's signals. Adkins' case is not the first in the music industry; several artists have previously experienced serious health problems due to exhaustion. Fans flooded the comment section with support, one writing, "Health comes first. Get well soon! Vision is not something we can take for granted."
For fans in Indonesia, this cancellation might affect viewing plans if Jimmy Eat World is scheduled to perform in Southeast Asia soon. Although there is no official schedule yet, local promoters who rely on international bands for events need to anticipate similar risks. The country's concert industry, which is thriving post-pandemic, is also required to have adequate health protocols, including cancellation insurance that protects audiences and organizers.
"We're disappointed we can't meet you. Take care, listen to your bodies, and we'll be back to rock together soon!" Adkins wrote in his statement.
Going forward, Jimmy Eat World's management has not given a definite date for when the tour will resume. Retina recovery usually takes several weeks to months, depending on the severity. Meanwhile, fans around the world are awaiting good news from Adkins. Will the music industry take the mental and physical health of its members more seriously? Time will tell, but this case serves as a harsh reminder of the importance of balance between career and well-being.
