Investigators from the Indonesian Air Force Military Police Center (Puspom AU) have officially named four soldiers as suspects in the assault that led to the death of Serda Ahmad Muzammul Farisa. The designation was announced directly by Puspom AU Commander Air Vice Marshal Daan Sulfi at a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday (16/9/2026).
The four suspects are identified by their initials: Serda MTS, Serda MAD, Serda JM, and Serda AH. All are Indonesian Air Force members serving in the same unit as the victim. According to Daan, the investigation is still ongoing to examine each suspect's role and the possibility of involvement by other parties.
The fatal incident occurred on Wednesday night, 9 September 2026, at around 21.05 WIB, at Mess Galaksi, Jalan Kopatdara, Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta. The mess houses personnel of the Air Force Psychology Service (Dispsi AU). Besides Serda Ahmad, who died, two other soldiers—Serda ZN and Serda RP—were also victims in the same incident.
The news of the death first emerged from complaints by the victim's family. Serda Ahmad's father, Toni Eko Prasetyo, said he received conflicting information about the cause of his son's death. Initially, on Thursday (10/9) at 04.00 WIB, he was contacted and told that his son had died in an accident. However, information from the victim's colleagues said otherwise: Ahmad was the victim of an assault by a senior.
"At 04.00 WIB I was contacted that my son had died in an accident. But another friend informed me that it was not an accident, but that he was assaulted by a senior," Toni said, as quoted by detikJatim.
Toni also mentioned injuries on his son's chin and chest. Serda Ahmad's body had not yet arrived at the funeral home in Jonggrang Village, Barat District, Magetan, on Thursday night, reinforcing the family's suspicion that something was amiss in the death.
The naming of suspects by Puspom AU is an initial point of clarity, but a number of questions remain unanswered. The public awaits transparency in the legal process, especially since the case involves a military institution long known for being closed off. Daan Sulfi stressed that the investigation is being conducted professionally and accountably, but he has not yet detailed the articles under which the suspects are being charged.
For readers in Indonesia, particularly investors and professionals, this case highlights the importance of governance and internal discipline within the Indonesian Air Force. The reputation of a defense institution can be affected if a case is not handled thoroughly. In addition, public trust in law enforcement within the military will be tested. Transparency is key to preventing speculation and maintaining national security stability.
Going forward, the public will watch whether the legal process proceeds swiftly and fairly, and whether there are systemic improvements to prevent a recurrence of violence in military education and barracks environments. This case could also be a momentum for the Indonesian Air Force to reform the culture of seniority that has long been considered taboo.
