Ligue 1 McDonald's matchday 9 delivered a series of standout statistical notes, from Marseille's dominance over Toulouse to an impressive display by Lassine Sinayoko that led Paris FC to beat Monaco. Data from Opta shows several records and milestones worth noting.
Marseille extended their unbeaten run against Toulouse to 25 Ligue 1 matches (16 wins, 9 draws), matching their longest run against a single opponent in the top flight, previously achieved against Le Havre last week. The 2-0 win over "Téfécé" on Sunday night (local time) underlined OM's dominance over Toulouse in recent years.
Sinayoko was the main focus after being involved in three goals as Paris FC beat Monaco 3-1 on Sunday. The Mali forward scored two goals and provided one assist, marking the third time he has been involved in three goals in a single Ligue 1 match this season—the most among players in Europe's top five leagues, level with Raphinha. With 13 goal involvements in total (8 goals, 5 assists), Sinayoko trails only Raphinha (18), Lamine Yamal (17), and Kylian Mbappé (14) in Europe's top five leagues.
At Lyon, Corentin Tolisso produced a strong performance with a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win over Angers. The OL captain has now scored and assisted in the same match four times in his last 13 Ligue 1 games, a feat he managed only three times in his previous 229 matches for Lyon. Tolisso has now been involved in 71 Ligue 1 goals for OL (43 goals, 28 assists), placing him in the top 10 active players for goal involvements in the French top flight.
"The win over Lens in the derby was an important moment for Lille, especially with Olivier Giroud's late goal securing the three points," read the Ligue 1 editorial note.
Giroud, who came on as a substitute, became the second player in the 21st century to score multiple Ligue 1 goals after turning 40, following Benjamin Nivet. His goal against Lens also made him the first Lille player since Nicolas Fauvergue in April 2005 to score a winning goal from the bench in the final five minutes of the derby against Lens.
In Paris, Achraf Hakimi made history by being involved in five goals (3 goals, 2 assists) as PSG thrashed Le Havre 5-1. The Morocco defender became the seventh player since Opta began analysing Ligue 1 in 2006/2007 to be involved in five goals in a single match, and the first defender to do so. Previously, in 135 Ligue 1 appearances, Hakimi had never been involved in more than two goals in a single match.
The PSG win also made Luis Enrique the coach with the most wins at the Paris club (127 wins in all competitions), surpassing Laurent Blanc's record (126). Meanwhile, Troyes ended the longest home winless run in Ligue 1 history after 21 matches without a home win (12 draws, 9 defeats) by beating Le Mans 2-0 on Saturday.
At Lille, Berke Özer recorded his 18th Ligue 1 clean sheet, at least five more than any other goalkeeper since the start of last season (13 for Dominik Greif). Meanwhile, Olivier Giroud and Corentin Tolisso showed that experience remains valuable in this increasingly competitive league.
With these impressive performances from key players, the competition in Ligue 1 this season is becoming more intriguing. Can Sinayoko and Gouiri maintain their consistency until the end of the season, or will other players emerge as new stars? One thing is clear: matchday 9 has provided plenty of stories and statistics to remember.
