Taisei Marukawa Two Steps Away From Indonesian Citizenship, Door to National Team Begins to Open

- Winger Dewa United, Taisei Marukawa, hampir merampungkan proses naturalisasi dan hanya menyisakan dua tahap administratif.
- PSSI membuka peluang memanggilnya untuk Piala Asia 2027 jika status kewarganegaraan tuntas sebelum pergantian tahun.
- Kepastian waktu menjadi kunci: keterlambatan bisa membuat Marukawa kehilangan momen bergabung dengan skuad Garuda.

The naturalization process for Dewa United winger Taisei Marukawa has entered its final stage. Special Staff to the Minister of Law, Noor Korompot, said the 29-year-old player needs to clear only two more stages before officially holding Indonesian citizenship (WNI) status.
Marukawa is pursuing the naturalization route on his own after settling and building his career in Indonesia since 2021. He first played for Persebaya Surabaya for one season, then spent two years with PSIS Semarang, before joining Dewa United in 2024. The requirement of five consecutive years of residence is the basis for his citizenship change application.
According to Noor Korompot, all administrative documents have been submitted and only further approval remains. "All processes have been carried out and we are just waiting for two more stages," he said, adding that Marukawa's chance to strengthen the Indonesia national team at the 2027 Asian Cup remains open.
PSSI itself has not confirmed whether Marukawa will immediately enter the national team coach's plans. However, Noor Korompot's statement signals that the federation is beginning to open the door for players who have long competed in Liga 1. Previously, PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir also touched on the FIFA Matchday agenda in November 2026 as part of the national team's preparations, though he did not specifically discuss Marukawa.
"Taisei's chance of entering the Indonesia national team for the 2027 Asian Cup is likely open," said Noor Korompot.
For the Indonesia national team, an additional player like Marukawa could enrich options in the attacking line. He is known as a fast winger with the ability to break through opposing defenses, and has shown consistency in the domestic competition. However, the final decision remains in the hands of the national team coach, who will assess tactical fit and current form.
What stands out is the timing. If the naturalization process is completed before the turn of the year, Marukawa still has time to join training camps and adapt to the national team's scheme. Conversely, a delay could cost him the chance to appear at the 2027 Asian Cup. PSSI and the Ministry of Law are expected to promptly complete the two remaining stages so there is no doubt on either side.
Going forward, the Marukawa case will test the effectiveness of the non-bloodline naturalization route. If successful, this step could set a precedent for other foreign players who have long built careers in Indonesia. However, the public will certainly demand transparency and accountability at every stage, including the reasons for selecting the player and the impact on local player development. The ball is now in the hands of the government and PSSI: can they ensure Marukawa is ready to compete at the Asian level?
