Members of House Commission III visited the residence of National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto on Saturday (3/10/2026), two days after he was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto. Commission III chair Habiburokhman confirmed the news and framed the visit as part of a recurring habit each time the top police post changes hands.
According to Habiburokhman, the meeting was not a formal state agenda but a courtesy call that has become the established pattern between the oversight commission and the police leadership. He said the tradition is maintained so that communication between the legislature and the executive in the security domain does not simply stop after an inauguration.
Notably, the visit did not stop at protocol pleasantries. Several Commission III members raised direct complaints about the conduct of certain police officials seen as arrogant. The grievances were conveyed as a request for improvement, not merely a verbal note. In other words, their arrival served a dual purpose: offering political support while also sending the message that institutional reform is a homework assignment waiting ahead.
During the meeting, Suyudi was said to have stressed his commitment to maximizing the concept of a police force that is a friend to the community. This approach positions officers as figures present among residents, not merely law enforcers who appear when problems arise. He also introduced his family to the Commission III members, a step commonly read as an effort to build personal closeness with his oversight partners in Senayan.
"Some also conveyed complaints about certain police officials who are arrogant and asked that this be corrected," Habiburokhman said, describing the contents of the meeting.
The turnover within the police force unfolded quickly. Prabowo dismissed Listyo Sigit Prabowo from the police chief seat and Comr. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo from the deputy police chief position, then gave both new posts. Listyo was inaugurated as Head of the Presidential Staff, while Dedi filled the position of Head of the Agrarian Reform Agency. This rotation underscores that the power map in the security and government circle is being rearranged at the start of the term.
For the public, the more pressing question is not who visited whose home, but whether complaints about arrogant officials will lead to real action. Commission III holds the function of overseeing the police's budget and performance, so meetings like this become a starting point that sets the tone of relations between the two institutions for the coming months. If the complaints remain mere casual conversation, public trust in the promise of reform risks eroding.
Going forward, the real test lies in whether the concept of a police force that is a friend to the community is translated into behavioral change on the ground, including action against personnel who violate the rules. The public will judge not by photos of the meeting, but by case reports handled transparently and accountably. Will this inaugural visit mark the beginning of serious oversight, or merely a recurring ritual that leaves no trace?
