Decentralized VPN service provider, NymVPN, has officially released the latest version of its application, v2026.12, bringing a number of significant improvements in speed, usability, and anti-censorship capabilities. This update also introduces a new pricing structure that eliminates the two-year subscription plan.
According to the Nym core team, this release focuses on "bringing the safest connections to more people, in more places, with fewer barriers." One of the key technical changes is a complete overhaul of the WireGuard handshake process, which is claimed to result in faster and more stable mobile connections. Users will not frequently experience dropped connections when switching from Wi-Fi to weak cellular data networks.
The most immediately noticeable feature is the one-click connection. NymVPN now provides a default "Safest" setting that automatically selects high-performance servers in neighboring countries, ensuring the entry point is outside the user's originating jurisdiction. Additionally, "Random" options are available to break traffic analysis patterns, as well as "Favorites" and "Recents" for quick access to trusted nodes.
NymVPN has also officially launched the geo-exclusion feature for desktop (macOS, Windows, Linux), complementing the existing split tunneling. Unlike regular split tunneling which routes entire applications outside the VPN, geo-exclusion separates traffic based on destination. For example, local banking applications can be routed outside the tunnel, while international traffic remains protected. This feature is temporarily only available to users with Chinese IPs but will be expanded to other countries.
"For people living under censorship, a VPN they can read is a necessity, not a luxury," said the developers in their release notes.
For users in regions with strict restrictions, the presence of a VPN application on their phone can be dangerous. After previously introducing icon disguise on iOS, NymVPN now brings a similar feature to Android. Users can hide the application behind an inconspicuous alternative logo in device settings.
Furthermore, NymVPN expands global accessibility by adding five new languages: Traditional Chinese, Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong), Japanese, Italian, and Indonesian. This step is considered important to reach users in countries with strict internet censorship, where the ability to read the interface in their native language is a must.
On the commercial side, NymVPN introduces a six-month subscription plan priced at $6 per month, while the monthly plan remains $8. The two-year plan has been discontinued, and the one-year plan is now the most economical option at $4 per month. Existing two-year plan subscribers will retain their plan until it expires, then it will be automatically renewed as a one-year plan.
The company claims to remain one of the most affordable options on the market, emphasizing that "privacy is guaranteed by design, not by promises that centralized VPNs are structurally unable to keep."
Looking ahead, NymVPN's roadmap includes QR code support for faster activation, expansion of geo-exclusion to Russia, and customizable ingress and egress server profiles. For users in Indonesia, the presence of Indonesian language support and anti-censorship features is an added value, especially amid the increasing need for digital privacy and free internet access. Will this step be enough to compete with established global VPN providers?
