Persib Bandung has opted to take a competition break, giving its squad a four-day leave after their away match against Persijap Jepara in the BRI Super League 2026/2027. This decision was made by the team management as a recovery step before facing a much more challenging series of matches in October 2026.
Persib coach, Igor Tolic, emphasized that the rest period is not merely a reward but a strategic necessity. According to him, the players have undergone a series of tough matches, including long travels and international games, making the four-day break the right moment to restore both physical and mental fitness.
"We will rest for a few days. I think it's well-deserved," Tolic said before departing for Bandung from Jepara.
On the same occasion, the Croatian coach also highlighted two of his players who are strengthening the national team, Thom Haye and Ragnar Oratmangoen. He hopes both will perform optimally and bring home positive results, as well as return to the club in prime condition.
Persib is indeed entering a crucial period. On October 8, 2026, Beckham Putra and his teammates are scheduled to play against Port FC in Bangkok in the Shopee Cup 2026. After that, they will immediately face a packed schedule in the BRI Super League and AFC Champions League 2 2026/2027.
Tolic revealed that the biggest challenge is not just the number of matches, but also the accumulation of long travels and city changes. He stated that his team will not have a rest period for the next 30 to 32 days. "We won't stop for 30, 31, even 32 days. We have 10 consecutive matches," he asserted.
Nevertheless, the 48-year-old coach observed a positive response from the players, especially in terms of mentality. He cited how the team quickly bounced back after playing against Persija Jakarta at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, then recorded a historic victory against FC Seoul in South Korea. That win was Persib's first in an Asian competition this season.
"The players gave one hundred percent. Everyone on the field performed like fanatics. Then we came to Jepara after all that success," Tolic said.
According to Tolic, such mental consistency will be an important foundation. He is optimistic that his team will integrate quickly, as the adaptation process progresses. However, he emphasized that the main key to facing the packed October schedule is not just tactics and technique, but maintaining player health to keep them fit.
"I think this team will come together very quickly. After that, it's all about staying healthy and playing the matches," he concluded.
For Persib, this four-day break could be a turning point and a test of workload management. If they can navigate the 10 consecutive matches with positive results, their position at the top of the BRI Super League and their chances in the AFC Champions League 2 will become more open. Conversely, injuries or fatigue could be a boomerang threatening their ambitions this season.
The question is, will this short break be enough to maintain Persib's performance amidst an almost relentless schedule? The Bandung public certainly hopes the answer is yes.
