Tottenham Hotspur's young forward Mikey Moore has officially begun his new adventure with Cologne in the German Bundesliga. The 19-year-old joined on a season-long loan without an option to buy and immediately showed his quality by providing an assist on his debut against VfB Stuttgart on matchday two.
Moore's decision to move to Germany was not without reason. After becoming Tottenham's youngest-ever Premier League player in May 2024 at the age of 16, he spent last season on loan at Rangers in Scotland. There, he made 47 competitive appearances, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. That experience left him hungry for regular minutes at a more competitive level, and Cologne became his next destination.
"I want to make people excited by my play and get them out of their seats," Moore told Cologne's official website. "I want the fans to say at the end of the season that I gave everything for the club and that they enjoyed watching me play."
Moore's move to the Bundesliga was also influenced by the role of Cologne head coach Renรฉ Wagner. According to Moore, Wagner has a clear vision of how and where he will be used. "He has a clear idea of how and where I should play. I really like that he plans to use me in an attacking role and that I am expected to help the team by scoring goals," he said.
Moore said he is happy with this opportunity. "When I got the green light for the loan, I was very happy. I can't wait to get started," he added. He also revealed that a conversation with Wagner convinced him to take the step.
For Moore, the Bundesliga has long been his favorite competition to watch. Now he is experiencing firsthand the atmosphere of legendary German stadiums. In his first home match against Werder Bremen, he felt a different kind of buzz. "The stadium is beautiful, and the fans are incredible. They are even crazier than in England," he admitted. "I want to play in big matches in packed stadiums and help the team perform as well as possible."
One of the big matches he is looking forward to is against Bayern Munich. The game, scheduled for November 20, will be a reunion with Harry Kane, the former Tottenham star now shining at Bayern. Moore remembers training several times with Kane during his time at Tottenham. "He was an amazing player for Tottenham. What he is doing now is truly beyond words. When I was young, I trained with him a few times. I am really looking forward to playing against him," he said.
Moore's progress in the Bundesliga has also drawn attention from the perspective of Indonesian football. The move by the young English player could serve as an example for young Indonesian talents who want to gain experience in Europe. The Bundesliga is known as a league that is friendly to young players and gives them regular playing opportunities. This aligns with the youth development program being promoted by PSSI and clubs in Liga Indonesia. Cooperation between Indonesia and Germany in football is also growing closer, with several Indonesian players testing themselves in European competitions. Moore's presence at Cologne could be an inspiration showing that youth is not an obstacle to competing in a top European league.
With a long season still ahead, Moore is determined to make a maximum contribution for Cologne. He wants to help the club perform as well as possible and leave a lasting impression on the supporters. The question is, will he be able to shine and help Cologne overcome Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Moore is ready to steal the spotlight.
