Taylor Swift once again showed her warm side behind the scenes of the entertainment industry. While filming a sketch for the Emmy Awards, the global pop star reportedly brought homemade cake for the cast of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU). The cake was no ordinary cake—according to actress Kelli Giddish, it tasted incredible and won over her famously picky palate.
Giddish, who plays Amanda Rollins on the series, revealed this in an interview on the Women in Entertainment podcast. She said Swift brought a sourdough brown butter chocolate chip cake. “She brought me a cake that was really delicious. I'm pretty fussy about cake, so I was very happy,” she said, as quoted from an entertainment news source.
The sketch featuring Swift was part of the pre-recorded Emmy Awards broadcast. In the sketch, Mariska Hargitay—the Emmy host and star of Law & Order: SVU—plays her iconic character, Olivia Benson, leading her team to investigate whether Swift will appear at the event that night. The concept parodies Swift's fondness for planting hidden clues (Easter eggs) in her work.
Giddish also said the idea to feature Swift's cat—named after Hargitay's character, Olivia Benson—came from her. “I said, ‘Can she hold her cat? That's my only request.’ And she actually brought it,” Giddish recalled. She added that Swift's presence on set was like a head-of-state visit, with very tight security. Even so, Giddish praised Swift's humble and friendly demeanor.
In the sketch, Hargitay as Olivia Benson urges her colleagues to “think like Swifties” to answer the night's biggest question: will Taylor Swift attend the Emmys? They then build an investigation board linking Swift's lucky number, 13, to the DTF St. Louis nomination, then connecting it to Kansas City, where Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. Swift herself appears mid-scene in a gray suit and says, “Hey guys, this makes no sense.”
“She came, and she was really sweet, down-to-earth, like a beautiful soul,” Kelli Giddish said of Taylor Swift.
Although Swift made clear she would not appear on the Emmy stage, she slipped in a joke about possibly doing “a cool pre-recorded sketch to support the host.” The sketch closed with the iconic Law & Order theme music, and both Swift and Hargitay said they were happy to hear it.
Interestingly, Swift did not watch the Emmy broadcast live. She was instead seen at the first game of her boyfriend Travis Kelce's NFL season, between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos, seated next to Tom Cruise. The moment underscored that despite being busy with various entertainment projects, Swift still shows up in person to support Kelce.
For Indonesian audiences, the Taylor Swift phenomenon is not just about music, but also about how global celebrities build their image through personal interactions and appearances at major events. Swift's ability to combine professionalism with a personal touch—such as bringing her cake and her cat—creates a narrative that strengthens her loyal fan base. On the other hand, her involvement in the Emmy sketch shows that awards shows remain relevant by featuring stars across generations.
Going forward, the pattern of Swift's involvement in events like the Emmys could set a precedent for other artists to appear more human behind the scenes. However, with her tour schedule and personal commitments, will Swift keep making time for projects like this? The public seems set to keep waiting for the megastar's next surprise.
