Celebrity couple Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez will celebrate their first wedding anniversary in an unusual way: eating the wedding cake that has been stored since their wedding ceremony in September 2025 in Santa Barbara, California. The 38-year-old record producer revealed the tradition in an interview on Today with Jenna and Sheinelle.
Blanco admitted he initially did not know about the custom of saving wedding cake to eat a year later. He recounted that Selena's grandmother told him about it during the reception. "I didn't know there was a tradition like this. Her grandma said, 'You have to save the cake.' I asked, 'What do you mean?' She said, 'You have to eat it later,'" Blanco said, imitating the conversation.
However, the cake is not intact. Blanco revealed that Martin Short, the actor who also stars in the series Only Murders in the Building alongside Selena, had eaten part of the cake ahead of time. "We still have the top part. The whole cake isn't there because Marty already ate some before we had a chance to save it. In the end they had to put it back together," he explained.
On the other hand, Selena Gomez once admitted she never imagined she would have a romantic relationship with Blanco. On the podcast Therapuss with Jake Shane, the 34-year-old singer revealed that the two had worked together on the song "Single Soon", but at the time she felt the project was not what she wanted. "I really didn't expect it. But it's all about timing. I had to be in the right mental state to start a healthy relationship," she said.
Selena added that after reuniting for the project, she and Blanco talked for two hours. She even asked Blanco to set her up with someone, but Blanco instead invited her to dinner. "Eventually we went on a date," Selena recalled.
